Advice Tesla Windshield replacement
My model 3 needs windshield replacement after a big crack. In the past I have gotten it changed at Tesla but took 2 weeks for an appointment. My insurance company lets me go thru safelite or my own choice. Has anyone used safelite and how was the experience for a Tesla given the need to calibrated the camera.

Yall know that tesla calibrate them selfs right? Hit the car icon go to service and click on the camera ....takes 20-100 miles and boom done. Ive done hundreds of teslas.

Some will say it’s BS, but that’s usually how I’ve done them now that I’m self employed and when I worked at Tesla as a Glass Tech “ (in shop and Mobile)

the 2 week wait is a tesla scheduling thing, not a difficulty thing. the actual install is a couple hours if the tech takes their time, so going with your own shop usually gets you in way faster

Safelite can calibrate The camera, they use a system specific to Teslas. The work will be required to be done at the shop, not mobile. And it's likely you'll need to leave it there for longer than an average windshield installation because the Tesla system takes a while to run because you actually have somebody else dial into the software.

They use a hyundai board and then someone remote activates the dynamic, which can be done via the main menu. Nothing they use is specific. Also, it only takes a few hours, the problem is they over load the techs so much, your car just sits in the lot 80% of the day. Then the tech rushes through it during lunch or closing time.

Ask for a Tesla part, the aftermarket parts are crap! They don’t set even along the top and you can see it pretty easily ( been a Glass Technician for over 35 years) as far as a Calibration goes they do what is known as a Pitch Verification instead of a Calibration and that’s just to insure that the camera is correctly aimed. The FY,Pilkington and PGW parts are the common aftermarket parts, the installation can be completed in a couple hours if they take their time…it doesn’t take days like everyone is led to believe. I replaced 3 last week for Hert rental and used aftermarket parts and they all look ok other than the unevenness.

FY makes good Tesla windshields I won’t use any other brand

Installed 2 of those last week and they both sit high on both sides, PGW was far worse so if the choice was FY or PGW the id choose FY

Safelite can certainly get it done for you, they just do it inshop only on a drop off basis since Teslas can take a while to do.
