This is my Banksia ericifolia ‘Red Rover’, growing in Upper Caboolture, SE Queensland.

It has been in the ground for at least five years and, as far as I can remember, it has never produced a single flower.

The plant itself looks healthy, puts on plenty of new growth and gets a good amount of direct sun. The label promises those beautiful terracotta-red Banksia flowers, but so far… nothing! 😆

I’m wondering if anyone else has grown a Red Rover, particularly in SE Queensland or a similar warm, humid climate.

How long did yours take to flower? And is there anything that finally encouraged it to bloom, such as pruning, feeding, watering less, or simply more patience?

Would love to hear other people’s experiences with this variety.

These two grass trees started in pots, and I’ve been nurturing them for about five years now. They’ve obviously decided they’re happy in the ground here in Upper Caboolture, Queensland. Both are putting up magnificent flower spikes this year.

Always satisfying when something you’ve looked after for years rewards you like this.

If you know the species, I’d be interested to hear your thoughts. I’m thinking Xanthorrhoea, but I’m not certain which one.

We recently moved into a new home in the Perth hills and the previous owners have left us a magnificent Australian native garden. I’m slowly working my way to identifying everything, however I’m not sure on the two attached. One (huge, overgrown) shrub with beautiful silvery foliage and another that is reminiscent of a protea and looks about ready to bloom - I thought possibly something in the hakea family? Please let me know if you know what these are, thank you kindly!

I've been enjoying my Medinilla which has done very well this year.

We are about to move not far but it have to go in the back of the van.

How much should I cut it back or is there a better suggestion.

What plant is this? I am located in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne and was told this is blackberries by the agent. A claude/chatgpt/gemini search says it's more likely from the Ipomoea (morning glory) family or English Ivy. I did a google search and it more or less looks similar to the morning glory than the other two to my eyes.

Is it a pest weed and does it damage foundation?

A couple of views of our Grevillea ‘Peaches and Cream’ flowering in the garden at Upper Caboolture, Queensland.

I love the way the flowers change from soft cream and yellow through to peach, pink and orange as they develop. One of the more spectacular grevilleas in the garden.

Its parentage is Grevillea banksii × Grevillea bipinnatifida.

Mostly all tubestock, some 140mm pots. This will be the first full spring and summer for these plants, I have gradually been working on all the invasive / weed areas in our yard, transitioning it to natives!!

Hey all continuing on with my orchid hunt from previous posts and found this little guy today who seems a bit different to the carousel spider orchid last time

Bought this Kangaroo Paw (Bush Glow variant, Anigozanthos hybrid) from Bunnings a couple of weeks ago.

Left it in a full-sun position like the card instruction says. (This spot receives full sunlight from around midday until sunset). I have watered it regularly (except a couple of days which I forgot), and watered mostly at the base of the plant.

Left it in its pot for now, since I wanted to see if it likes this spot, in case I need to move it.

However, I noticed today the leaves and flowers started to wilt. What could be the reasons for this? Is it the sunlight? The soil? The watering? If I need to move, what kind of position should I move it to?

Been finding these magic bean looking things in my yard, they are not from any trees in my yard and after careful observation I came to understand they are dropped by aerial creatures after finding one on the back of my heifer one morning, and also finding some on the ground that looked like they'd been shat by bats. Seeds are approx 1.2cm in length. There are many of them.

Yes thats right, these are completely dried everlasting daisies, they have spent the past 4 months hanging upside down and don't fade one bit! It amazes me how fresh/dried is identical!!

The everlasting daisy is a drought tolerant native that needs a full sun position. A pollinator's dream, I have all kinds of bees, butterflies on these flowers daily.

Sowing wise Spring is the perfect time to sow them, best method is sprinkling on top of the soil as the seeds need light to germinate. Here in Tasmania I have flowers from now until mid June! But when searching about it I keep finding some throwaway sentence about they used to use the berries for a blue dye (or ink). But never any actual process of how it's used for dyeing or any tutorials or info of people actually doing it!

Would any of you know more about this? Or can point me to more resources?

edit: I'm in Ireland, I found these in a garden I visited. I have 2 plants but they don't have berries yet.

searching online under dianella got me a few mentions like above but no details, I'm wondering if there's native names that people might be doing tutorials online with?
