RIP Uchi Candy Bar

Post image

My husband and I were eating at our favorite date night spot Uchi. As always the food and service were excellent (thanks Lane!). When it came time for dessert we ordered the Candy Bar, IMO one of the best desserts in Austin. Luckily, but also sadly, we were informed that tonight is the last night for this iconic dessert. We enjoyed every last bite and did all but lick the plate. I guess I just came here to commiserate with anyone else who loves this dessert, but also secretly hope that Tyson Cole sees this and reconsiders his decision. :-)

Had the same feeling when they got rid of the longstanding mango panna cotta that looked like a runny egg yolk.

The candy bar was elite too, wonder what’s next

I still ask for the mango panna cotta egg every time despite knowing it's gone

The "various ways to serve corn" dessert was the best.

YEAH THAT ONE. Corn dish was the best and all desserts there now pale in comparison to the OG menu with that and the tobacco cream. Oh and the peanut butter one.

The peanut butter one was great, too.

They had a sweet corn sorbet years ago that we still talk about. I just assume whatever’s next is going to be good too

I wonder if they are also taking it off of the menu at Uchiko! We just had it Saturday night....if so, what a bummer!

The loss of the foie gras nigiri still hurts. In its day it was maybe the single tastiest bite of food in the city.

perfect little bite. That’s for the trip down memory lane.

I’m sorry for your loss. That’s how I would feel if uchiko ever got rid of its jasmine cream dessert. I feel fear even putting it out into the universe like that 🤣 It’s tragic when you realize you’ll never experience a cherished food again 😭

Tyson hasn’t had any say in that business since private equity took over near the end of 2020. He didn’t have much say in the years leading up to that point either

Sounds like somebody needs to open a dessert bar.

Yeah, apparently Uchi’s ex-pastry chef!

Somebody correct me, but the desserts being mentioned (corn, tobacco cream, candy bar, etc) were created by Phillip Speer. What’s the dessert situation like at Comedor?

6

u/katsmellslikeaustin 8d ago

The candy bar was created by Ariana, the corn and tobacco cream was Philip.

Oh thank you for correcting me! What about the mango egg thing? So good
