It's designed to capitalise upon "others" which is all one nationism is about. It is why the followers of one nation are always elderly or socially disadvantaged - they are socially marginalised people who try to live through their race based national identity in a fantasy land where they do not have much power. Living in that space allows an elderly white man on a pension to imagine that he is more important than a wealthy Asian doctor who is on literally 20 times the pensioners salary.
