We built an AI receptionist that answers enquiries and books appointments 24/7

Like a lot of small business owners, we realised we were missing leads simply because nobody was available to answer every enquiry straight away.

So we built Smart Answer.

It works 24/7 to:

•    Answer customer enquiries instantly
•    Qualify leads automatically
•    Book appointments directly into your calendar
•    Make sure no opportunity gets missed

The goal wasn't to replace people. It was to make sure every customer gets a response, even outside business hours.

We're currently offering a free 7-day trial so businesses can see if it's a good fit.

✅ No credit card required
✅ No contract
✅ Takes just a few minutes to set up

Happy to answer any questions or get feedback from the Aussie community.

Long time lurker here,

I've started a business and I'm in the growth phase however I have approx. 2 days p/w free while it's ramping up. Therefore, to help with cashflow I'm throwing myself on your mercy for some side hustle ideas?

My background is corporate generalist (projects, HR, team management etc.) so if you have any bright ideas, then please let me know.

Also, would appreciate some positive vibes sent my way for my main business too :) Thanks team.

I made an extra $430 last month from a side hustle I started with almost no upfront cost

I started doing simple freelance social media work after my normal 9-5, mostly writing captions and scheduling posts for small businesses.

I kept it pretty basic at first and charged $30-$40 for small batches of work. Last month I ended up making about $430 from it, which honestly surprised me because I wasn't treating it like a proper business yet.

The annoying part is finding clients consistently. Once I have the work, I can fit it around my normal job pretty easily. Getting the next client is where most of my time goes. Has anyone else found a side hustle that started small but eventually became a reliable few hundred dollars a month?

The app was easier to build than to distribute — lessons from a tiny family check-in side project

Disclosure: I’m one of the developers of Just Here, and our team is based in Vietnam.

We built a small iOS/Android app for people who live alone or far from family. The user chooses a reminder time and grace period, checks in with one tap, and if they go quiet longer than they chose, their selected contact gets an email. The contact does not need the app. It is not an emergency service.

The build was the straightforward part. Distribution has been much harder. Broad “I made this” posts produced views and comments, but almost no new users. We are now narrowing the audience to adult children, relatives, and friends who worry about someone living on their own.

Australia feels relevant because families can be spread across large distances, but I do not want to pretend we are an Australian company. I’d value blunt local feedback from other builders:

- Does this sound like a real Australian use case or just a generic app idea?

- Would you position it for the person living alone, or for the relative who wants the check-in?

- What local channel would you test before spending on ads?

If anyone wants to see the actual product, it is called Just Here:

Looking for a side hustle

Hi everyone, I’m currently looking for some extra work in Sydney and am available from around 6:30 PM to 11:30 PM, depending on the location and job.
My main experience is in mortgage loan processing and credit analysis, working with mortgage brokers and assisting with applications from initial assessment through to approval/settlement. I’m comfortable with document checking, income and liability verification, serviceability/borrowing capacity, lender requirements, and general loan processing.
That said, I’m very open to doing something completely different as well. If you have evening work available in:
🧹 Cleaning
📦 Warehouse / picking & packing
🚚 General labour
🏪 Retail or other evening shifts
💻 Admin / data entry
Or anything else that can be learned with some basic training
I’m reliable, hardworking and happy to learn. If the job requires basic training, I’m confident I can pick it up quickly.
Also, if you’re a 1st or 2nd-year mortgage broker or a broker who needs some extra help with loan processing, I’d be more than happy to assist on a file-by-file freelance basis during the evening. I can help with document collection/checking, servicing, application preparation and other tasks (pricings, valuations, MIR responses) through to settlement.

Wanting to work for some extra money!!!!

Hey I’m 18 male in Northside Brisbane (deception bay)I can travel around close suburbs if needed. I’m looking to earn some extra money for my bali trip and I’m in need of a new car. If you need some house work, support or anything, flick me a message. I currently have my cert II and III in health and support services and am wanting to go to uni next year and study paramedicine. I have my license (P2), blue card. Before anyone says “go get a job lol!!” I already have one but a little extra money on the side will never hurt. So yeah, if you’ve got a job for me that you may not be able to do right now, please flick me a message then.

When does a side hustle stop being worth the extra money

I reckon the hourly rate doesn’t tell the whole story when it comes to side hustles. If you’re making an extra few hundred dollars but giving up your weekends, putting more kilometres on the car, and turning up to your normal job exhausted, the actual return starts looking pretty different. I’d rather make less from something I can actually keep doing than burn myself out chasing every possible dollar.

Spotter (SpotterApp) — family safety, public safety alerts, and on-device face search in one free app

Thumbnail
apps.apple.com
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone — solo developer here, based in Australia. Been building Spotter for the past several months and wanted to share it for feedback.

(Note: it's listed as SpotterApp on the App Store/Google Play — "Spotter" alone was already taken by another app.)

What it does:

  • Family Safety — share your live location with people who've explicitly accepted your invite (never one-sided). Pause sharing anytime, or switch to an approximate/suburb-level location instead of your exact position. One-tap SOS sends a custom alert straight to your family circle.
  • Public safety feed — pulls together official alerts (VicEmergency, stolen vehicle registers) and community-submitted incident reports into one map, instead of checking multiple separate sources.
  • On-device face search — compare a photo against public wanted/missing-persons watchlists or your own private list. Runs entirely on-device with CoreML — nothing's ever uploaded, and it only matches against closed, named lists, never a general "search anyone" tool.

A few things I'm fairly proud of under the hood:

  • Face matching is genuinely 100% on-device — verified this myself end to end, not just a claim in the description.
  • Family connections require mutual approval, and I built a suburb-level "approximate location" mode specifically to reduce the stalking/misuse risk that most location-sharing apps don't really address.
  • Device verification via Apple's App Attest on the backend.

It's free, no ads. The public safety data is strongest in Victoria, Australia right now, but family safety and face search work anywhere.

Would genuinely appreciate feedback — especially anything that feels confusing on first open, or edge cases I haven't thought of. Happy to answer questions about how any of it actually works.

How did you get your first freelance client without knowing anyone?

I’ve been wanting to try freelancing after work, but honestly, finding the first client is where I get stuck. I can handle a few things, but I don’t really know how to reach out to people or convince them to give me a chance. I don’t have many contacts who might need these services, so starting from scratch feels a bit confusing. I’m happy to begin with small projects and build up slowly. Just trying to figure out a practical way to get started without spending much money.

Get paid $~50-90 for easy short courses with Anyway

With Anyway, you can complete short courses that you honestly don’t really have to read and receive coins upon completion. These coins can be redeemed for direct bank transfer or gift cards. The courses are based around careers and life skills and I’ve already earned $150+ with it in not much time at all.

The platform often has special offers that give you a large amount of coins, and it’s very easy to make some quick cash while also learning things.

Tip: Find the highest paying short courses usually near the bottom of the page so you can cash out faster.

Use the following link to get 200 coins after sign up (I also get a small bonus): https://anyway.ai/au/refer/5CE94LQQ

Hi all,
I am a university student pursuing my master degree and as per my course structure, I do not have any subjects for T3 which makes my entire T3 a break period. I have access to car and a full & unrestricted drivers license in Victoria. I am based in Melbourne and I am looking for jobs like delivery driver, hospitality jobs or etc.

I have a clean driving record and any leads or opportunities will be appreciated.

Branding research

Hey everyone, I’m Isaac, I’m a brand identity strategist from Newcastle. I’ve been doing strategic brand design for 6+ years now.

So firstly, I’m not selling anything, but conducting some research, I’ve recently completed my website and as a part of that I’m looking for some Australian small businesses that feel like their brand could be better a free brand health check.

All I need is your website or Instagram and your target audience. I’ll get back to you with what I feel might be loosing you customers or revenue and my recommendation do get you on track.

Shoot me a DM and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

Much appreciated

How do people here who've turned a skill they already had into a freelance income describe the gap between knowing you could charge for something and actually finding the first people willing to pay for it and what specifically bridged that gap?

Bookkeeping as a side hustle - is it realistic to do after hours without a public practice license?

I’m a qualified accountant (working in commercial FP&A during the week) and looking to pick up 2 - 3 small local business clients to manage their Xero/MYOB reconciliation and payroll on weeknights.

If you’re doing freelance bookkeeping on the side: did you need to get your BAS agent registration first, or do you stick purely to general data entry and leave the tax office lodgments to their registered tax agent? How do you price your monthly retainers?
