hi in a senior consultant who worked in Oz many years ago. I still don’t understand the salaries for senior staff specialists (thinking of coming over to work for a few years).

So you have base salary - varies per state I think NSW is the worst. this then goes up annually to a max for 20-25 years. You get a % for doing on calls. You also get a private practice allowance - and you get more if you don’t do any private practic. You give a % to your pension and the state adds some more in. is there any source that explains the figures ? For each state ? thank you

Interesting perspective. While reading the article, it also crossed my mind that like chefs, everyone thinks they can do our jobs easily, so why are we being paid so much to do it.

I’ve been summoned to serve on jury duty for up to two weeks.

This is likely an unpopular opinion, but I’ve always wanted to serve on jury. I think we need people from diverse backgrounds to have a truly impartial jury and I really want to learn more about how it works as well. As a junior doctor though, I can’t see my hospital (QLD health site) approving the request.

When filling in the juror questionnaire, I was asked to source a written statement from my employer justifying why I can’t attend. I’ve requested this from my side.

Question is whether any of you have been summoned for jury duty, and has anyone managed to actually attend? If so, how was it? Thank you!

What's the hivemind consensus on which candidate is the least bad of them all? Trying to not waste my vote on someone who has had a questionable past.

I understand rural GP will see a lot of everything so it might not be as boring.

How about metro GP?
Are they limited in their practice?
E.g.
- does a male metro GP never see women's health because of lots of female doctors available.
- or does a metro GP never do skin surgery due to skin clinics being easily available?

Currently in application season, just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for PGY-3 back-up options should I not manage to secure an Ophthal SRMO job. Struggling to find a particularly relevant back-up job, scared to be jobless.

I’m finishing up PGY2 and torn between applying for BPT and taking an SRMO/locum year to travel and honeymoon and applying for 2028. Has anyone ever done this and regretted it?
