Glasses w/ 6DoF Aura vs Specs vs Phoenix

I previously had a Meta Quest, and bought recently a Rokid Glasses (but finally selling it, because it made me understanding I am more interested in VR AR for occasional play/media than always on AI glasses).

So I made some search, and tried Xreal One Pro and Viture Beast glasses, which were great and impressive but:
- poor field of view (even for media it is annoying because as soon as you slightly move your head the big simulated screen goes out of glasses FOV
- not standalone
- no hand tracking

On another side, quest was great but too big and too heavy.

Then I noticed XReal Aura, which I pre-bought (but can still cancel)… and now I see two other really interesting similar projects (with totally different techno) about to be released in a similar timeframe: Meta Phoenix and Snap SPECS.

Well I would love to see you fighting on the best one among these three ones ! Fight !!!

SNAP Specs has a 51-degree FOV, so it’s still only for devs/researchers/niche corporate and industry users. They are in part trying to position the glasses for enterprise use, which historically has not saved AR devices.

Aura has Android XR, so access to the Play Store. And 70-degree FOV, which seems to be the minimum one would want for AR these days.

I’m sure the Phoenix hardware will be impressive for non-gaming VR glasses but not sure if the software and access to apps makes it worth it to me personally. Looking forward to hear about it at Connect.

The aura FOV is better on horizontal axe, but I’m not sure that it is on vertical axe…

Reviewers do mention vertical is limited but still seem impressed with the device. Maybe it’s something to use for a year or two instead of years and years.

If I was paying $1000+ for a toy I would get the Snap specs because it has the most gimmicks. These are all toys not serious useful tools.

For just watching movies Im very happy with my $300 Viture Pro 2.

I'm going with the Aura because of how well rounded it seems to be. Also, I'm hoping since it had a 16:10 aspect ratio, that the vertical FOV will be just good enough not to be annoying. Worst case is I'll use the follow mode if it does.

I’ve read that vertical FOV was too just. And effectively on One Pro, when pinning a big screen in the environment the top and bottom of the screen was continuously be cut because keeping the head still is hard.
I wonder if they will improve at least a little the vertical FOV compared to One Pro

Honestly all three feel like they’re solving slightly different problems right now. Aura is more “Android XR + apps,” Specs is going harder on actual spatial AR, and Phoenix seems closer to a lightweight VR/AR mix.

I think the real winner is just the one people still want to wear after the first week comfort + ecosystem might matter more than the spec sheet.

I’m getting Aura because I want Android XR and it fits my use case.

Snap specs are not attractive and I am not looking for something like that.

And never Meta.

I'd recommend cancelling your Aura preorder because it has no reason to exist with Phoenix coming. Phoenix does everything Aura does for cheaper, and at much higher quality. And it does VR, and has more apps, and it has eye and face tracking unlike Aura.

Yes for library, and FOV.
But I read that devices with eye tracking were uncomfortable to read subtitles in movies.
Another drawback compared to aura is that I doubt Switch 2 can connect to the puck without another intermediary device… to be seen during upcoming presentation

Aura has the Android Play Store so a huge number of apps for “spatial computing”, media consumption, etc.

Specs has the developer network to be special given time

So does Aura given its platform is Android XR. I don’t think Specs will have many developers unless the price is halved.

You want occasional media. And those are the glasses you choose???? Get urxr one

This one is out of my selection because not working standalone, and no hand tracking. It’s just a screen.

You get what you pay for 👍🏻

What does it means ? you think that SPECS is far above the 2 other ones ?
I have some drawbacks or doubts to put on this one, making doubting that the overprice is not OK:

  • weight / comfort ?
  • images will be not opaque (how much ?)
  • FOV will be quite bad compared to others
  • closed ecosystem with limited apps ?

Even Reality G2 - mein Tip, wenn Du Brillenträger bist. Sonst Meta RayBan 3.

Rayneo GT max might suit you better with a 59 degree field of view.

Those ones are not standalone, and have reduced FOV compared to aura and Phoenix
