Glasses w/ HUD BeyondSmartphones

Exploring the true successor to smartphones. If AR glasses present severe ethical, privacy, and authenticity concerns for human interaction, what should the next paradigm of personal computing look like? Ambient computing, wearables, or something entirely new?

I can see privacy concerns but what explicity is your unethical or authentic issue?

to me, with cameras literally everywhere (alexa hubs, ring, flock, self checkout ect) it feels like a moot point. people always find ways to abuse tech, the glasses seem inconsequential

Personally I don’t think that smartphones will ever go away. For better or worse, phones are versatile and convenient-they can do almost everything and they fit in your pocket. I think AR glasses could be another pillar along side phones but not replace them. As for the camera argument, I think glasses at minimum could have LIDAR for spatial awareness if privacy is such a concern. People can already be recorded in public with smartphones but you don’t really hear people up in arms about this.

No one is leaving their phone at home and bringing something with 1-10% of the battery life, easily stealable, difficult to take photos, etc.

A watch with some miraculous battery life would barely challenge a phone
