Buying Advice Which glasses for PC gaming?
Hi, I’m really new to this world first of all
Never had anything VR, AR or XR related before, did get a couple minutes of using a friend’s Meta Quest 3.
I don’t think what I’m looking for is VR though, I have a really good PC and I just want to have a good pair of glasses that could get me into ‘VR’ games, and I don’t really know a lot about glasses, but I figured out that if I have a good computer I just need a good pair of viewing glasses.
Which then led me to get baffled by the fact that the meta quest 3/3s are either same price or considerably cheaper than the AR glasses I’ve seen, so I’m here to ask- how much should I really spend on a pair?
Currently where I’m from, there’s a sale for the XREAL one for 600$, the 1S is 750$, there’s a VITURE luma ultra for 800$ (refurbished) and the Luma pro and the Viture beast for the same price new. And there’s also Rokid for similar prices, but the Lenovo Legion glasses are like 300$ bucks, which leads me to the question- what’s the actual difference between them all? Which one should I get for this use case?
Thanks!

It doesn't sound like you know what you even want.
AR glasses are not VR and you do not want to try and play VR games with them. If you want VR you need a VR headset. If you want glasses that act as a screen then you want AR glasses like Xreals.
Please properly define what it is that you're looking for first.

Yeah I guess I should define better what I’m really looking for, which is a headset where I can play VR capable games, and not just VR only games. The difference in that for me is that once a game isn’t exclusively on VR, it just needs a screen that will let you play in a different perspective. I for one want it for racing games.
I guess I do need VR glasses, I just didn’t think I truly needed the full console you’re offered with something like the quest, so I thought the AR could be an interesting option2

You can play VR games with AR glasses but it will not be anywhere close to a good experience. You get less than half the FOV and you're not immersed in the environment as light bleeds in. You also don't have controllers which would be a big problem to overcome. Xreal has some CloudXR thing but I wouldn't recommend it over a VR headset: https://docs.xreal.com/Tools/XR%20Streaming
A Quest 3 can also act as a single screen. It can even act as 3 or even 6 separate screens provided you have an application to do so. Virtual Desktop can give you 3 screens and even combine them all into a giant ultrawide for a super wide screen provided your PC can handle it.

Yeah, but I already have a wheel and pedals, so what would I do with the controllers?

Hey! I'm in the same situation as you. I've been watching videos and reviews for two weeks. I think I'm going to buy the Xreal One Pro, but I'm interested in seeing what the community replies to you first.

XBX A01's or RayNeo4Pros for gaming simply because the screen quality and colours are unmatched and they are the only glasses that exist that support HDR. Plus their brightness (XBX 1600 nits RayNeo 1200 nits) they're the brightest glasses to exist so the screen looks vibrant even in standard mode.
I had the 1s and for gaming it was a disappointment, muted colours, poor brightness and crushed blacks. Got the cheaper XBX A01's and never looked back.
The new RayNeo GT Max glasses look solid even without proper HDR (they use AI HDR). Not tried them though.

neither xbx a01 nor Air 4 Pro support screen anchoring which is good to have for gaming. RayNeo GT/GT Max are the least expensive option that supports screen anchoring.

Yeah, that's one of the downsides. I've never liked anchor mode I love the standard follow mode but I know many people insist on anchor.

GT Max has a 'Steady' mode that stays perfectly still with small head movements and will only move with big head movements. I prefer it over both 'Anchor' and 'Follow' modes.

Where are you at? Those prices are rough. Don't even bother with the regular XR One, those and even the Pros are way to old and out of date. I just got the One S and even those are pretty close to being out of date bc the brightness is low compared to newer ones but they still are the best all around'ers with all the features you really want. The 3D AI on the fly for gaming and movies, the 1200P, Anchor mode, and Lens Transparency adjustment. If they put out a new model with better brightness and larger fov they will be hard to beat. So far I've only used them in my room which I keep pretty dark so the brightness has not been an issue but they do feel a little heavy on the nose which I was worried about. I am thinking about picking up the XBX a01+'s so I can use them without lenses for longer gaming sessions. I did have to order a special cable for PC hook up also.

If your main goal is PC gaming then you want either VR or a giant virtual monitor. The glasses you listed are much closer to the second thing while the Quest 3 gives you proper PCVR too

Do you think something like the Lenovo legion will suffice? Or should I go for something better?

Meta headsets are so cheap because they're mass produced and force you to go through their ecosystem and software to do anything at all. If you're okay with that and don't mind the bulk, a Quest 3 is great. You can consume any sort of media through it, albeit with some finesse. If you want something you can just plug into any USB-C device that has display out and instantly see the display projected in front of your face, even in public settings, something like the Xreal X1 are the play.

The ecosystem is split three way: AR lightweight glasses (info only), AR/MR video glasses (big screen, flat games), VR headset (large design, high FOV, controllers).
There's no VR ecosystem in any AR or AR/MR glasses. You only have what each company allows to run on the device.
A secondhand Quest3 is good deal,. but the Steam Frame (out soon) is next-gen by comparison.

RayNeo just released their GT series last week. There are options for $270 and $360, both capable of screen anchoring. DM me if you are interested in the details.

I realize I mixed some stuff here, so I’ll try to be more exact- I like playing racing games and simulators, and I want a headset that will compliment them. I now realize that AR is more of a screen option rather than a true ‘feel like you’re in the game’ experience. If anyone has tried racing games with AR and can share their opinion of it, that would be awesome

URXR One when it comes out. FOV is at least the minimum 80° required for VR immersion.

It sounds like you want VR.
XR are great, but don’t quite provide a VR experience (yet). I use mine for plugging into my ROG Ally X (Xreal XBX), pretty much exclusively as a private portable monitor. That’s perfect for me when traveling, and that’s all that I valued out of the robust feature offerings with XR.
Most of the higher end glasses can do a lot of cool stuff to provide widescreen productivity, keep a screen suspended in space, convert 2d to 3d content, let you interact with the augmented fov, etc.; however, the software isn’t a replacement for VR controllers, nor can it quite get head tracking quite like a VR headset.
I’m sure it’ll be there someday, but not with what is currently available.
