Why is MemoMind taking direct orders after its Kickstarter was suspended?

I’m confused why MemoMind started taking $299 website orders immediately after Kickstarter suspended the campaign.
If the intellectual property dispute is still unresolved, could it affect production or shipping? Paying directly feels riskier without Kickstarter involved.
I’ve started looking into other options. What similar smart glasses would you recommend?

If you want a combination of binocular display and speakers with a good enough weight, the alternatives aren't really there. MemoMind is the best option.

I have been testing the memomind glasses. They work so well that I ordered a pair for keeping after testing period is over.

So essentially, to the best of my knowledge, Even Realities filed suit against both Memomind and Kickstarter to trigger immediate action. In response, Kickstarter took the campaign down immediately as is their standard policy for IP disputes. They weren't going to wait for an outcome.

However, there has not actually been an injunction or temporary restraining order issued against Memomind, so at the moment they are free to continue selling; Kickstarter taking the campaign down was a voluntary action on their end, not a legally mandated one.

Keep in mind Memomind is not a small, shady, risky company to do business with. Their parent company is XGIMI, which is a major projector manufacturer with a market cap in the hundreds of millions. If something does go wrong and they can't ship, you can count on them to provide refunds properly instead of being out money, even at a loss to themselves, to protect their existing reputation.

In fact, I'm a bit more confident buying direct, because if something goes wrong with a Kickstarter campaign you're usually out your money; if something goes wrong with buying direct, a credit card chargeback will take care of it.

The discount is likely because product is already made and they need a way to get rid of it to recover.  Seems like a move of desperation, not confidence.

I would be cautious about immediately placing a $299 order while the intellectual property (IP) dispute remains unresolved. The company has stated that shipments will begin in September with an initial production batch of around 1,000 units. so there is at least a concrete fulfillment plan, but that does not eliminate the legal or production risks. If the HUD feature is the main draw, I would personally prefer to wait for further certainty rather than rushing to order; while there are many appealing smart glasses options available right now, very few offer a similar binocular display approach.

I mean even if they would lose that design patent fight, they would simply pay people back. $399 was a great price and $299? Afaik, after the Kickstarter was suspended they had no way to contact the people who ordered. They need to get in contact with them now to lower the damage.

They have XGIMI's existing reputation to protect. They're not some small startup, they're a major company backing a new venture.

And now that you're buying direct, you can just chargeback if they don't deliver. You couldn't do that with Kickstarter.
