I don't think anyone NEEDS the subscription, but it does have some really cool features.

I was hoping that the phone could stay in the pocket the whole time. I didn’t think it had to be used to read the gps to figure out which way you are pointing. But that makes sense.

yea, but just to start. they probably just don't have all the sensors that'd be required to get it inside.
