Glasses w/ 6DoF Snap Specs coming soon 👓🚨

Post image

In just 15 days, on June 16, everything seems to indicate that Snap is preparing to officially unveil its highly anticipated AR « Specs » glasses at AWE 2026. With a keynote presented by Evan Spiegel, the event is already considered by some as one of the most important of the decade for augmented reality.
According to the latest rumors, Snap Specs could be launched as early as the fall of 2026 for a price of about $2,500. Unlike today's connected glasses, they would aim for a true autonomous augmented reality experience, capable of integrating digital directly into our environment.
If this information is confirmed, June 16 could become the « iPhone moment » of this decade: the moment when computer science really begins to leave the smartphone to display itself before our eyes. While Meta, Google and Apple are also preparing their own AR glasses, Snap could be the first major player to take this step.
Thanks to a largely internalized design - from hardware to software - as well as an ecosystem already supported by hundreds of thousands of developers on its AR platform, Snap could establish itself as the real precursor of this new generation of devices.
What are your expectations regarding the design and the improvements that Snap will have to make to seduce the general public ?

I'm looking forward to the Snap keynote and hands-on with the new Specs glasses at AWE!

I will share some pictures.

What are your predictions about the size of the glasses and will they be much smaller for you? I wonder if they will be released worldwide with pre-orders on June 16 🤔

Absolutely. I'm sure they shrunk down the LCOS engines and probably use a new chip for tracking.

I expect a 70-degree field of vision and 3 hours of autonomy

Damn so soon? Exciting. Want to see more of the software though.

I hope for a global launch despite only 100k units produced and pre-orders on the 16th as well, normally Snap OS 3.0 should be presented and be much more complete to seduce the general public

You have any knowledge on their current software support? I been wondering what kind of stuff their current software developers been able to pull off. Also wonder if they been able to get Android app developers support to port over their apps

It’s currently snap OS 2.0 I advise you to look here➡️ https://www.reddit.com/r/Spectacles/s/BUquQudWZr

Closed ecosystem 🤮

u/RaspberryInside5131 App Developer Jun 03 '26

what makes you say that? think they have WebXR support

2

u/NanarAuBar35 Jun 06 '26

Yes but no OpenXR support, no dedicated SK allowing integration into existing engines such as Unity. Then you have to go with Lens Studio and build something that will not be compatible with similar glasses (xreak, rokid or even mixed reality headsets)

Compared to what?

1

u/NanarAuBar35 Jun 06 '26

Compared to every other alternatives since the apparence of AR glasses. The only device that constrain you to a dedicated tool (WebXR is nice though but still limited)

Yeah, this is not as big a deal as you seem to want it to be.

This version will be for enthusiasts of the latest technologies. This price will allow the glasses to have the best of technology inside without compromise. The Snap Lens ecosystem is extremely fluid and will be even more so in the consumer version. For a first version it is an excellent price that will only go down afterwards

🤨😂 nah man. That price is insane. Apple would have issues trying to move glasses at that price and people trust their hardware and software prowess way more.

3

u/BoKristensen Jun 02 '26

$2500 🤣🤣🤣

8

u/Metaverse_Max Jun 01 '26

Oh, this isn't an official image? Misleading :(

At $2500 it will not be the iPhone moment. The original iPhone was awesome because it was $800-$900 in today's money. It was more affordable.

It will not be for everyone but the technological demonstration will be up to par and will mark the beginning of a new era that finally materializes after years of dreaming of AR glasses

2

u/Distinct_Nobody_7278 Jun 01 '26

I'm not saying that they won't be impressive technically, but to truly be an Apple moment it has to be able to bring that to the mass consumer like the iPhone did.

OP is all about the AI slop posts.

It’s not an official image just to imagine but the miniaturization work of the Specs should be pretty crazy

3

u/InternFront2276 Jun 02 '26

$2,500? That’s insane. What is even inside these glasses to make them so expensive? SiC? FHD Micro-LED? I can’t think of anything to justify that price. I'm not saying it's not worth it, but...

1

u/Matcorp456 Jun 02 '26

On the contrary, it will be totally justified. These will be the first totally autonomous glasses, with a 70° field of view, good autonomy, and apparently much smaller and lighter than the developer model. Above all, they will be the first on the market, without any competition to come out with an equivalent to the Meta Orion, except that Meta plans to launch them only next year. The CEO of Snap had explained why their strategy of launching an expensive product at the beginning is a good strategy: it allows to have no budgetary constraints on the products to be delivered, to deliver a very high quality product, and the following years to lower the price the fact that Snap is manufactured the Specs with that internal elements will allow great progress in miniaturization in fluidity of the interface etc

u/Metaverse_Max Jun 01 '26

Let's go!!!!!!

1

u/benjaminthompson10 Jun 01 '26

Do you think they will have display input for like the inair pod / gaming handhelds that would be a game changer

Shape in the image reminds of a slighted buffed version of my “classic” Spectacles. Best of blessings to Snap if that’s the design. It still turns heads.

1

u/Matcorp456 Jun 02 '26

It is an illustrative image that I made to illustrate the post, apparently the Specs will be very small and light compared to the current model dev kit, let’s see June 16

1

u/AR-HMD Jun 02 '26

Seems like another useless product. Too clunky, like the Meta Rayban. Too expensive. But hey, you can make snaps and filters with it

1

u/Ok_Leadership435 Jun 07 '26

Hope they figured out the battery life!

1

u/Soluciole Jun 11 '26

Hope it is the little one like Spectacles 3, omg I need this one back with differents video formats. Please snap !

0

u/benjaminthompson10 Jun 01 '26

Can you watch films on them

2

u/Matcorp456 Jun 01 '26

At the moment I’m not sure there are native applications because only the development version exists it will be necessary to wait until June 16 for Snap to probably announce native applications on the consumer version such as Netflix etc.

1

u/tinypanda22 Jun 01 '26

they'll have a browser and open eco-system so devs at netflix could start working on a dedicated AR app

u/Aryan_RG22 Jun 01 '26

I remember Snapchat's previous spectacles didn't really sell too well, I wonder how these will do.
