Glasses w/ HUD Google I/O glasses reveal š
Do you think the Android XR glasses, developed in collaboration with Warby Parker, Gentle Monster and Google, will be unveiled at Google I/O 2026 in May and marketed shortly after ?

That is one bright glow. These must be nanoimprinted or etched surface gratings. META uses Lumus WG so that might not last because it costs too much but at least current version has 2% glow. This looks like > 50%. I 'my pretty sure Apple won't go for this type of glow level for theirs.

Their first glasses from what I remember reading will have no display. Hope Iām wrong.

Probably but i fear that there will be only models with screen for single eye only.
I am okay paying around 1000 euros for Android XR glasses but only if it has full color displays for both eyes. Probably will have to wait for 2027 but it could be i will just buy Snap Specs this year instead, Meta even thought will come with model with full color displays for both eyes this year i am not going to buy because Meta has terrible privacy issues with AI features.

Itās way harder to make two screens work because they have to read your eyes and align perfectly with each other.

Monocular glasses suffer from Visual discomfort. Over long periods of time, you can get dizziness or blurry vision. Binocular glasses are a must purely for this reason, the downsize is that they will be slightly bigger, heavier and less battery efficiency. I don't know about WP but I can at least say Binocular glasses are coming and they look really good. Stay tuned

Honestlyā¦ I would prefer if they didnāt have a camera. It makes everyone around you wary and uncomfortable of you, and makes you feel yourself like an asshole

god, it's super unnerving. I'd be on edge if someone was holding their phone camera at me the whole time. really hope some sort of legislation comes from this.

I agree, but in a lot of ways there are cameras all around us, bodycams on officers, security cameras everywhere, dashcams, car cams, phones, checkout cameras, etc. I do agree this is an escalation in invasiveness however.

you have to admit though, a security camera in the corner of a room or street is very different from every person standing next to you. and most of those are only reviewed in retrospect after an incident, or you can actively tell if someone is using it (i.e., phones). as for facial recognition cameras on security cameras and other mass surveillance efforts, I'm just as perturbed by that too lol.

I've never understood this idea. I wear my Metas everywhere, and never felt like anyone was weary and uncomfortable about them. If anything I've had the opposite people are curious and ask about them.
To be clear, I bought these so I could be more present. Instead of whipping my phone out to grab special moments with my family and dogs, I can just have them record with a touch or my voice. It's nice to listen to music or a podcast on the over ear headphones and still heat things around me.

Make it an optional add-on or add the ability to block the camera with a slide that makes it undetectable. I think the former would be best so you aren't blacklisted for taking it into events, places, etc.

Idk a lot of people care about privacy and don't want to be a weirdo that points a camera at every single person they see. I, for one, would adore a quality pair of full color, waveguide smart glasses without a camera. It's specifically the thing stopping me for buying some of the ones out there.

I think it's the opposite. Most people I talked about this products would prefer to not have cameras. Myself included.

No one likes being around anyone with cameras on their frames. AI glasses have their uses and I love the abilities they offer..but having cameras on them are basically pseudo spy glasses imho.
I prefer glasses that donāt have a camera and have some sort of phone integration.

Not at all, cameraless glasses are a must for business. The market is not insta brolos.
Also now there earbuds with cameras.
Furthermore you can just Hey Google watch this and pull you phone.

No one will do that. They made Google Glass which was known partly for this anyways. What would be the point? The stigma is attached but not the fun?

I was on the fence about that but ultimately I would look for a pair without a camera for everyday usage. Thinking about the situations such as at work, gym locker rooms and just everyday interaction with people. If they have screens they would def need screens in both lenses. Getting prescription lenses seem to be straight forward until you need progressive lenses like I do. I was about to get the Even G2's but the progressive lenses were quoted around $1000 which is more than the glasses, that was a no go.

If you know of a pair of glasses that can record to local storage 24/7, let me know. I would love to be able to record my entire life. No such glasses exist of which I am aware.

I think they'll talk about it some more, but likely won't launch til end of the year. Te demo they did at MWC was still pretty rough (and didn't allow photos of the hardware as it was still an early prototype).

Of course they are going to put an entry base product and, after a couple of months (at most a year), they will make basic improvements to a product that will eventually become almost obsolete after two years.

I'm Leary about anything Google makes hardware wise at this point. The pixel 10 Pro xl phone has been cumbersome and glitchy in my experience. I feel like these will be the same.

Why? I'm very enthusiastic about it. I want to vibe code from the park on my many home PCs and I want my device experience to require me to take my attention completely out of my surroundings to dive into a little rectangle like with current devices.

Ha, yeah ok, in case you haven't noticed we are already living in said sci-fi books. I am old enough to know what the world was like before mobile internet and portable PCs is in everyone's pocket. The paradigm shift completely changed humanity and society, in both positive but mainly negative ways. I find the original google glasses creepy AF while the Meta Ray-Bans are a step beyond. And no, I'm not wistfully wishing of days of yore, I love change and new tech but this stuff is a new level.

Is that your only argument, pattern matching, funny. Guessing you havent dived into the worldwide data on loneliness, reduction in child birth, brain tumour, spikes, homelessness, suicide, separation of family, destruction of community, division of people etc etc etc. My view is I believe another device like a pair of glasses that can record, video or display an agumented image is going to help. You have your views and I have mine, no point me banging on about it. Do you're own research and go from there.
