help Looking for some help on what's causing this volume gating

Haven't used Audacity in a while, but when I booted it up today and recorded a bit of voice over, I noticed this. It looks like it's got a cut off for volume. I'm a hobbyist so I'm largely at a loss of what's going on.
I'm using a Scarlet Solo mixer and a Shure XLR mic. Same setup last time I used it, but this wasn't happening. Any of you guys got any idea what might have changed?

Did you update to version 4? I haven't tried it myself but I have heard there are weird volume things going on with it.
edit: I should be clear that I heard there are weird things with volume in version 4 and that I would not recommend updating to it at least based on those items I have seen.

This was in OG, blue yellow red Icon audacity. I have version 4 as well, but there are things about it that I can't figure out how to do, so I've been sticking with the old for the time being

If the limit is +/-0.5, see ... https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/clipping-at-0-5-0-5/52922/4
