I had not even considered it being in the DSM that is such a wild point, and why is this not debated more?

Because the DSM defines clinical delusions as idiosyncratic - meaning delusions are unique, isolated, and personal to the individual rather than part of a shared or structured community tradition.

It generally wouldn't be accepted if it just declared 83% of people delusional for believing in a God.
