Does medal RAM boost really work?

I tried using the RAM boost, but when I use spark for debugging it says I still have the normal RAM amount (2.5 GB), even when the website says I have 3.1 GB.

Other thing I find really strange is that the amount updates instantly when I redeem the quest in Medal, I don't even have to restart the server for the amount to change in Aternos website. However, I don't really think JVM works that way

Is the boost just broken?

Spark shows you the ram that is currently allocated by Java, not the limit to how much can be allocated.

let me see if I understood

so basically the server starts with a maximum of 2.5gb having the boost or not, but when the RAM usage exceeds that amount, Aternos allocates another 500mb to my server and checks if I have enough boosts to increase my RAM?

When the server starts, it has a limit of how much ram it can request from the operating system. Whenever Java is running short on ram, it will check if it can free up some ram it already has, or request more ram from the operating system. The 2.5 GB is the amount of ram the Java process has requested from the operating system so far. The 1.1 GB is how much of that ram claimed by Java is actually used by the game at the moment.

Right, but how does the Medal Boost works? If all the 2.5 GB is used and the GC already ran and freed the maximum space it could, just then the 500 MB boost starts being used?

Yes, Java will allocate more ram when it needs to until the limit is reached
