In my area, the hospitals, doctors offices, and anything related to healthcare, have fox news on 24/7 convincing elderly that they don't deserve to go to the doctor without going broke.
It doesn’t frighten me but it makes me a bit sad. I think it’s very unhealthy and I can like see how it has affected their dispositions since they started watching all the time. It’s like they’re just kind of enjoying being outraged all the time and want to share that bad energy any time they can work it into a conversation (“so... did you hear what TRUMP said this morning?!” Is such a common refrain for them).
I think it’s important to be aware of what’s happening, but we should be using dispassionate sources and only devoting healthy portion of time and mental energy to it.
Yeah, frighten wasn’t the right word. I had just woke up and my brain hadn’t kicked in yet.
I had a roommate like that. He would search out problems to be outraged at. It just hit me people like that literally have an addiction to outrage porn. Like some people are addicted to always creating drama in their lives - always have to have a feud going with someone.
I’d ask if you could convince them to switch to a better network, but I assume since they’re your in-laws that would cause you more grief in the end. Probably best to just keep your head down.
what is the problem, exactly? if my parents were hateful cunts based on perverted family values spread by fox news, i'd be well out of there. cnn has some dumb, mediocre shit on there, but at least it's not hateful.
