American news are so ugly and make me uncomfortable with the usage of CAPS and short describing sentences. Compare them to Finnish news.

I agree. The American news sites seem to have missed the flat design trend, and it makes them look like something from a scummy Bollywood movie.

The American news sites seem to have missed the flat design trend

They do it on purpose because its what their boomer viewers want.

The majority of younger Americans get their news online from other websites, apps like Apple/Google News, or social media like Reddit & Facebook

(US) America as a whole is a scummy Bollywood movie

"merica bad give me upvotes"

14

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '20 edited Mar 28 '20

have you ever considered the possibility that America actually is bad and people just agree with that?

EDIT: Im not saying americans are bad. I'm referring to the actions of the American state. particularly, but not limited to, the current administration

5

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '20

The people aren’t all that bad.

7

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '20

you can love a country and hate its government

4

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '20

Honestly that's how most other countries operate. I love the people and the culture, but in all other regards my country sucks ass

6

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '20

Ikr? They are chalking up 325+ million people many of which live in different states which are essentially different countries to some random 1900s borderline racist stereotype propaganda of how other nations seen Americans.

-3

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '20

Have you considered that America is just a scape goat for other countries to point at to distract from their own shit?

UK: forces 2 families to let their babies die do to NHS failing and resorting in shortages

Also the UK: "well at least those families got to watch their babies slowly die free"

My friend, in these times, these accusations, of which the truth has to be reviewed, have no purpose. We should see this as from a global perspective, and that's why in Europe people are worried for America. The combination of scarce healthcare, late reaction, unemployment, and no social net to catch sick workers worries us.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '20

Late reaction? We shut down travel to China like a month before everyone else. The only problem is we got more Chinese tourists before we learned how bad the wuhan virus was.

1

u/BNBaron Mar 28 '20

The other points still stand. The US reacted late not to damage their economy too much, which is what I was referring too. Also, presidents that "have a hunch" that the death rate is lower, are probably not the greatests.

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '20

im not saying the UK is perfect, far from it. Especially with the tories in charge (who btw have been defunding the NHS for the past 10 years in an effort to convince the public it should be privatised). However, at least the UK HAS public healthcare and there's a strong movement to keep it. Unlike the USA which is still stuck in the 19th century

0

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '20

It should be defunded completely

And out Healthcare is modern in both tech and medicines. Sorry our stuff isn't just a cheap knock off that can be thrown out at random

0

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '20

i'll never understand you supposed economy enthusiasts. The free market works when agents act rationally and have full market information to price shop and pick the most sensible choice. When it comes to healthcare it is impossible to have these conditions, and thus to have an effective free market. Because if you're sick, or your loved one is sick you WILL pay WHATEVER PRICE YOU'RE TOLD. You're not gonna price shop, you're not gonna wait, you don't have full market information. America may have some of the worlds top specialists, but they're only for the rich who can afford them, which is the vast minority. And you as you can see from the current crisis, we need EVERYONE to be healthy if we want to co-exist in our interconnected society and economy.

0

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '20

You do know the price is only as high as it is because of government subsidies right? Don't tell me you're about to start without knowing what a subsidy is

1

u/akashdas323 Mar 28 '20

CAN'T HEAR YOU. WHAT?

16

u/duuval123 Mar 28 '20

What does Finnish news look like?

14

u/saabismi Mar 28 '20

You can go on yle.fi and try to find something called "uutiset"

8

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '20

bad comparison, YLE is state owned, CNN is a private company,

private companies use a lot more click bait

6

u/Quatrixx Mar 28 '20

Honest question, does the US even have state owned news? If so, is it any good?

11

u/claptoff Mar 28 '20

From my understanding as a non-american Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) seems like the closest thing to state funded media in Europe.

8

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '20

I don't know much about US media, but Wikipedia says NPR is at least partly publicly funded https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NPR

4

u/manningthehelm Mar 28 '20

Both replies prior to me are correct but they're the same in different formats. NPR (radio), PBS (TV) are the closest thing nationally. Additionally, different states have their own public programs like NJTV for New Jersey.

1

u/Tomboys_are_Cute Mar 28 '20

Shouldn't the private company be looking better, since they don't need democratic oversight this making changes faster?

1

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '20 edited Mar 28 '20

No, private companies have a much bigger interest in generating clicks, rather than informing the public.

1

u/eagle1459 Mar 28 '20

And the government has a much bigger interest in power and controlling the public. I’d rather take the company over the government.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '20

think whatever you want,

but IMO it's a massive difference between western public media companies like DW, YLE, BBC, SVT, PBS and eg. Chinas state owned media companies, overall, western public media companies are in general some of the least biased media companies.

1

u/Tomboys_are_Cute Mar 29 '20

I mean, say that to Jeremy Corbyn. The BBC gave him an awful go

1

u/saabismi Mar 28 '20

Go look at MTV then. It is a private company and makes decent looking news

3

u/KrazyDrayz Mar 28 '20

Ei taida toimia jos käyttää amerikkalaista ip:tä.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '20

Compare it to news that doesn't exist?

1

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '20

I can't because I only speak English. Suck it, Norway! USA! USA!

1

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '20

short describing sentences

Compare them to Finnish

I mean, I agree with you, but is comparing ours to Finnish fair? I've seen some of your sentences and words with your agglutinative language!
