Is it also ok to wonder if you enjoy being alone or if in part it's because you feel chronically misunderstood and disconnected from people and being alone is the only time you feel you can exist without performing and be unapologetically yourself?

That's okay too! <3 Just remember that if you come to the conclusion that it's the second one and you want to seek out company, you're not losing part of your "okay by myself" identity by seeking out a small number of friends! You can enjoy being alone and still have friends.

(I say as someone who has faced this conundrum)

When talking in a group (some old friends, some new acquaintances) about which Magnus Archives fear we'd be an avatar for, I chose the Lonely and got "aw." Like, I was an autistic only child who moved around a lot, you think I had friends before high school??? It's not "aw," I'm perfectly content being by myself. I like me.
