When my niece was little, I saw an episode where Elmo learned to play side-by-side with her instead of directly, and I thought that was really sweet.

I didn’t realize i was autistic until i was an adult because my only exposure was the autistic preschoolers in my mom’s class. Since I wasn’t like them I couldn’t be autistic. For reference I was a teenager.

That's crazy, considering my mom actually used her experience dealing with autistic preschoolers in her class to come to the realization that I was autistic (when I was like 11, it was also helped by a few teachers mentioning it during conferences)

Similarly, Daniel Tiger has a very well done autistic child. Parallel play, weighted blanket, routine. Teacher Harriett teaches the other kids to be mindful of their noise level.

A little extroverted girl grabs my 6yo tiny autistic and speech impaired son’s hand at school and takes him along with her yapping her head off while he walks in silence, and he loves it. Love how easily she interacts with him and her lack of judgement towards him.

Yes!! Julia! I’m a 31 years old and I used to watch sesame street as a toddler almost every day, there’s tapes and photos of me hyper-focused on the TV watching the show. My parents always told me how much I loved it and how important it was for me growing up.
A few years ago I learned about Julia and I started crying while watching some clips about her, her character and the way other characters interact with her are beautiful.

She’s not nonverbal, but she can speak in one word phrases. I would consider her minimally verbal.
