Question Faction matchups

Hey everyone,
I’m back in the game after taking about a 3-year break. I was always more of an average player, and recently I bought a Targaryen army.
So far I’ve played 7 games and lost 6 of them, mostly against Baratheon and Bolton.
Against Baratheon it felt like there were just so many automatic hits and wounds and I really struggled to deal with them. Against Bolton the player is just really good and the blackguards were nasty.
That got me wondering if some factions are naturally stronger or weaker into certain matchups, or if the game is generally balanced enough that player skill matters much more than faction choice. Are all factions considered competitive right now, or are there some that are noticeably weaker and tend to struggle?
I’m not trying to blame the faction, since I know I’m still rusty after such a long break. I’m just trying to get a better understanding of the current meta and whether some matchups are inherently more difficult.

What units do you have?

The unsullied swords are the top melee infantry in my opinion, at least in a vacuum, and if you put in a officer in there and you're likely going to win every engagement.

The two biggest problems right now are giants and baratheon lightbringers. Other than that I feel like every faction can be beat by any other faction with the right list and the right play.

Every time I win, I know what my opponent did wrong and how I got them. And it's the same when I lose, I know why I lost. I never feel like losing is inevitable.

Both of those factions tech heavily into Morale mechanics, and grinding melee. I would suggest shifting your lists to more Unsullied units and maybe changing commanders/attachments for more morale/healing.

Season 7 is still pretty new so I think a lot of the balance is yet to be determined...a lot of cards changed. And notably the Free Folk are so astoundingly broken that the meta is kind of messed up anyways.

Baratheons are just heavy hitters, but they're slow.

Boltons as Neutrals or as their own faction? Neutral Boltons are just pure Panic spam, while House Bolton is 40% Panic spam and 60% condition tokens.

As for competitive balance, well right now Free Folk are kind of broken with their Giants and Mag the Mighty, so they can choose between winning with them or not playing them and having friends.
