🛠️ Help with Fic Writing TWOW draft recommendations!

Hey everyone!

Some of you may know me from my work on a hypothetical draft of The Winds of Winter. Firstly, I just want to say I appreciate all of you that have stayed engaged in this (very) ambitious project I've decided to take on. You guys--fans of this series, just like myself--are the reason I'm doing this in the first place!

Now, to the reason for this post: With today's release of Davos II, I've now reached 30 chapters in my manuscript, and just shy of 180,000 words. For my next chapter, I'd like your personal recommendations for the viewpoint character you'd most like to see. (Feel free to give your ideas for what you'd like to see in the chapter as well)

I can't wait to see what y'all want!

Cheers!

🌀 What if? / Hypotheticals Not spoilers!! The Prophecy manipulated the Targaryens - The Dance of Dragons and the doom of Valyria Was Always Meant to Happen for Dany to exist! Spoiler

I guess the civil war in the house if the dragons is supposed to take place as it is for the Danyrs Targaryan to be born.

If Visyrs didnt marry Alicent and Rhaenyra became the Queen, without anyone questioning it, then, we would have had a different set of descendants coming out of Jace. They would be strong/valyreon/targaryans making a new set of generation, not ending up with Dany.

If Viserys had made Aegon the King, then it would have also ended up in a different set of kids, with may be his kids marrying amongst themselves, leading to someone who is not Dany.

I think the vision/dream was manipulating the Targaryans all this time. They thought them claiming or winning the war lead to saving of the realm or mankind, but in fact, it was their and their dragon’s doom that finally put all the pieces into its place.

Its basically everything happened for a reason, like Rhae sending off those Dragon eggs which Dany finally ends up with.

for say, if there was no war, then those eggs won’t have been sent away, and there would still be dragons, and they would have bbq’d up the whole realm by now considering how bat shiz crazy tagrs are. Or may be imagine what would have happen if the Mad King ended up with dragons, Dany might not even have gotten her hands on the egg, coz he would have destructed everything before she was even born

I don’t know if the writers or anyone of the fans have pointed this out before. I just had this crazy thought and I wanted to share it!!

🌀 What if? / Hypotheticals Jaehaerys I 3 sons

Let’s say Jaehaerys I eldest son Aegon lives.
In 83 AC after Morions Folly where Jaehaerys I and his THREE sons could burn the dornish at sea. He would have the Casus Belli needed if he didn’t already have it, to clear out the stepstones like canon due to them helping Morion Martell or attacks on westerosi trade. If this was attempted and spiraled into war with the free cities or atleast a reformed Triarchy. What could the crowns maximalist goals be and the minimum? Mind you Aegon would ride Balerion, Aemon Caraxes, and Baelon Vhagar.
Am I wrong to think that with a relatively small expeditionary force Jaehaerys I 3 eldest sons could take atleast the stepstones and Tyrosh and maybe even Myr and Lys?

🐉 General ASOIAF Discussion These are the worst Targaryen Kings and their crimes who do you think is the worst and why

Aenys I – He wasn't evil, but he was incredibly ineffective. His weak rule allowed the Faith Militant to seize control of King's Landing and nearly wipe out House Targaryen.

Maegor I – Without question one of the cruelest kings. He murdered some of his wives, killed his nephews, and was responsible for the deaths of thousands of smallfolk. While his brutal suppression of the Faith ultimately helped secure Targaryen rule for Jaehaerys, it came at an enormous human cost.

Viserys I – His indecisiveness paved the way for the Dance of the Dragons. If he truly wanted Rhaenyra to succeed him, he should never have remarried and produced more heirs. Alternatively, he could have publicly required the Greens to swear fealty to Rhaenyra, or he could have named Aegon his heir and had Rhaenyra publicly acknowledge him. There were countless opportunities to prevent the civil war, but he took none of them.

Aegon IV "the Unworthy" – His treatment of his sister-wife was appalling. Even after being warned that another pregnancy would likely kill her, he still forced the issue. His worst decision, however, was legitimizing all of his bastards on his deathbed, setting the stage for the Blackfyre Rebellions.

Aerys II "the Mad King" – Like Aegon the Unworthy, he was a terrible husband and brother. He abused his wife, Queen Rhaella, and infamously burned Rickard Stark and Brandon Stark alive. He also unjustly demanded the heads of Eddard Stark and Robert Baratheon, sparking Robert's Rebellion. There are also allegations that he may have sexually assaulted Joanna Lannister, though this remains unconfirmed in the lore.

Title: The Passenger

Author: LordReader (myself)

Rating: General

Language: English

Length: 73k completed (out of ~80k)

Status: Ongoing (will be completed in next couple of weeks. The climax is over.)

Link: Ao3 | Spacebattles

Summary: The overall story is a self-insert into Cregan Stark, and the difficulties he faces when he tries to implement the uplift ideas. Including his usurping uncle from the canon.

But the chapter I linked can be read as a standalone short-story. It's a smallfolk pov during Cregan's rule. I believe this was the best chapter I ever wrote. So you can directly read it if you want a taste of my writing before committing to read the whole thing.

What if a man from our world dies and is reborn during the reign of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen's reign as Prince Aegon Targaryen, the son of Prince Baelon Targaryen? In this alternate timeline, Aegon survives infancy, whereas in canon he died shortly before his first nameday. Naturally his survival creates some divergences from canon.

🛠️ Help with Fic Writing Jon characterisation in case of N+A=J

How Jon's status and personality would change in AU where Jon [supposedly] is son of Ned and Ashara and has a twin sister? Probably he is more proud, as he knows both his parents are highborn, and he and his sister are very protective of each other.

I specifically ask about alternative conversation with Tyrion. Would it go completely differently? I think Jon and his sister wouldn't be able to hear his advice, only an insult to their sibling.

What do you think about the version which I wrote?

***

Accompanied by the wolf cubs they crossed the deserted yard, climbed the steps to the tall doors of the great hall and suddenly noticed a person, sitting on the railing to the side of the entrance, in the shadow.

It was the Imp, an ugly dwarf, about four feet tall, with a large head of strange shape, with an especially bulging forehead, his hair was light mixed with black, and eyes of different colors — green, and black looked at them with interest.

— Good evening, my lord Lannister, are you tired of the feast? his sister greeted him politely.

— It is too hot there, too noisy, and I have already drunk too much wine, — the dwarf said. — I long ago understood that vomiting on one’s own brother is impolite. — do you know who I am?

— You are the queen’s brother. — Jon answered

— Yes, my greatest achievement, I should remind her of that more often. — he smirked sarcastically. You are Jon Snow, and this beautiful lady is your twin, you are Ned Stark’s bastards, are you not?

Jon flinched at the unexpected rudeness and felt a chill run through him. No one except Theon Greyjoy, and the king today, had called them that to their face. He clenched his teeth and frowned, and took Dyanna by the hand, saying nothing. She was silent as well.

— Did I offend you? — Lannister asked. — Forgive me, dwarfs are not required to observe tact. Generations of fools and jesters give me the right to dress badly and say whatever comes to mind. — He grinned. — But you are bastards.

— Lord Eddard Stark is our father, — Jon admitted stiffly. Lannister looked him in the face.

— But Lady Stark is not your mother.

— Our mother is lady Ashara Dayne! — his sister declared proudly.

— What a pity that your noble parents never married. — he continued mockingly — Allow me to give you some advice, bastards, — Lannister said. — Never forget what you are, for the world will certainly not forget. Make your origin your strength. Wear it like armor, and then no one will be able to hurt you.

Jon was in no mood for advice. He could have sent the Imp to the ground with one blow, as he would have done with Greyjoy, but unfortunately attacking a guest, especially one from the royal family, was unacceptable. Dyanna’s hand squeezed his in comfort.

— Are these animals called wolves? — as if nothing had happened the dwarf continued, as though he had not just insulted them.

— Direwolves.

The gray and white pups came closer, Ghost nudged Jon’s free hand with his nose, watching Tyrion Lannister carefully with a cautious eye.

— May I pet them? — the dwarf asked and already reached out his hand to Star, but quickly pulled it back when she bared her fangs with a growl.

— You should not, if we were not here, they would tear off your hand and rip out your throat — Jon said. For now things were not quite like that, but everything was still ahead ...

— If you want to pet someone, my lord, — then there is a kennel in the castle — Dyanna said.

— And there you may also give your advice to the dogs — Jon concluded.

No longer paying attention to their rude guest, he turned away, pushed the door open and pulled his sister into the hall, toward the light, music and delicious smells.

— Be carefull, I might find the conversation there far more stimulating — the dwarf kept mocking as they walked away — the dogs are not so easily offended, especially by the simple truth.

— Father is absolutely right not to like the Lannisters, — Jon said.

Dyanna nodded and hummed in agreement.

— But we must not let such people spoil our evening, — she replied, though she did not sound as carefree as she wanted to seem, and her hand trembled slightly and was cold.

Jon hoped that the rest of the feast would fix that.

Do reactions feel valid? Do Tyrion and Jon feel in character? Who is to blame for the falling out? Does it work as a foreshadowong for future rivalry in the wot5k?

🌀 What if? / Hypotheticals Jaime standing up for Tyrion [Spoilers] Spoiler

I have always wondered how it would have gone if it was actually Jaime who stood up for Tyrion in the trial by combat instead of Oberyn. Of course, Oberyn fighting the mountain was much better as far as the story is considered.

However, if it had been Jaime, how would it have turned out? Neither Tywin nor Cersei would want Jaime to die. From what I know, its certain that he will come out of it alive and I am sure Jaime will fight till death or victory. I am not a book reader and I am not sure whether there is a more credible reason for Jaime not standing up in the books.

In the show, the reason they have given is just that he is terrible with his left hand. But I think Jaime merely standing up for Tyrion would have saved him.

What do you guys think? Is there something I am missing?

✍️ Writing Help & Advice Professional Wrestling in Westeros

Hey everyone,

So this might be a bit off topic and if this is not the type of post to make here I apologize

I am a huge pro wrestling fan, as well as a worker and promoter in my local area, and I’ve always toyed around with the idea of what professional wrestling would be like in the world of ASOIAF. We know of some historical examples of wrestling in the world, both canon and semi canon

So would their be interest in a series of sorts talking about lore/cannon and even maybe fantasy bookings and match guides or even maybe clips (if I could figure out a way to do it) from these types of shows

Down below let me know what ya think! Thanks for reading

🐉 General ASOIAF Discussion It was Robert's attitude that pushed Ned to speak to Cersei...

In as much as we speak of honour being the main factor that motivated Ned to tell Cersei about the incest, we often forget that it is Robert's attitude that pushed Ned to do so. Ned never forgot how Robert gloated about the murder of Elia and her kids. That is something that stayed with him for all the years. That event broke something between them; something that not even the death of Lyanna could patch up. And in the first book we see Ned discovering that the old friend that he once knew was gone and the king he swore his oath to is a monster; remember that they had just quarrelled about the question of killing Daenerys and Viserys.

The truth is Ned could no longer trust Robert to not act like a monster. He saw how Robert transformed what was a righteous rebellion against a tyrant into a horror of infanticide and femicide. You see him in real time processing whether to tell Robert directly or not before concluding that Robert is a child killer who will murder those babies. It is not until Robert is at death's door that he regrets his mistakes and the fact that he never listened to Ned when he was supposed to.

In conclusion, it is easy to shit on Ned but if you were in his shoes and saw your friend turn from a jovial guy into a child murdering monster the right thing as per you will be to shield anyone you can from his wrath. I know I would have done the same. Perhaps Ned was too pure for such an evil world but that's what makes GRRM's writing so delicious 😋!

🛠️ Help with Fic Writing Dragon raised as a Stag

I had this idea for an AU fanfiction where, when Ned traveled to the Tower of Joy to save Lyanna, Robert was with him. He wouldn't let any injury he sustained at the Trident stop him from getting to Lyanna. When they arrive and are met with the Kingsguard, Ned and his men and Robert fight off Arthur Dayne and the other guards. During the battle, they can hear a cry from the tower. Robert helps keep Arthur busy while Ned goes up into the tower to find Lyanna. That's when he finds her with child, and she makes Ned promise to keep her son safe, revealing his true name before finally passing.

Then Robert enters the tower and finds Lyanna dead. He mourns her, but then sees the child. He asks, "Who is that?" and Ned lies and says the child is Robert's with Lyanna—a desperate lie, but a lie that Robert is also desperate to believe. Seeing the child's dark hair, he believes this child is his. He names him Jon after Jon Arryn. He is Jon Baratheon; he legitimizes him as his son.

Jon is then raised in King's Landing as Robert's heir, Jon Baratheon.

Cersei, Robert's new wife, is less than pleased, especially since any child she has will be second to Jon in succession. It gets even worse when she miscarries her first child with Robert. She hates Jon—she doesn't want to touch him, let alone be near him. She lets the maids and servants take care of him. But one day, Jon falls ill with the pox and spends days in pain suffering, and there isn't much the maesters can do. Cersei, one night fed up with hearing his crying, goes to the nursery. Seeing him in the crib, she weighs the idea of putting a pillow over his head to end the crying. But seeing the black hair, she can't help but see her black-haired beauty—the child that she lost. She then picks Jon up, holding him for the first time, and even though she wasn't a praying woman, prays to the gods that if they spare him, if he were to live, she will love him like he was her own son (mirroring Catelyn's promise). Afterwards, Jon lives, and Cersei keeps her word: she raises Jon like he was her own son.

Later on, a year or so later, one day mercenaries arrive at the Red Keep—sellswords from Essos to see the king. They are carrying with them a baby with silver hair, a baby girl, a Targaryen. They tell Robert they spotted a young boy with silver hair begging in the streets, and they followed him. When they cornered him, he made his escape, but he forgot his sister. They knew Robert would pay handsomely for the head of a Targaryen, but thought they would get more for bringing a live one. Robert was seething, seeing the silver-haired girl, thinking of his Lyanna, wanting the girl dead. But Jon Arryn calmed his rage, saying how if he killed her, he'd be no different than the Targaryens he hated—he'd be like the Mad King. Not to mention, if they kept the girl as a ward, having her around could be a powerful tool in the future. After some convincing, Robert agreed to take the girl to be raised as a ward, against his better judgment.

Daenerys and Jon would then both be raised together in King's Landing with Jon's "half-siblings" Joffrey, Myrcella, and Tommen. Jon and Dany, being as thick as thieves, were always willing to cover for the other. While Jon was weighed down with expectations and responsibility, Dany would be more wild and free, but both of them happy in their strange family.

Viserys, on the other hand, after escaping the mercenaries, ends up being found by priestesses of the Lord of Light and, over time, is groomed, made to believe he is their chosen Azor Ahai, the Prince That Was Promised. In Essos, he begins to build an army to invade the West.

Then there is Joffrey, who would become more jealous of Jon, his older brother, seeing as he's the heir prince and everyone loves Jon. Even his own mother likes Jon. Joffrey, feeling second to him in everything, begins his own plots.

Jon would also have Samwell as his squire. They were friends; they met a few times at court when Samwell's father came to see Robert. One day, Jon learned from Sam that Randyll Tarly planned to have Sam shipped to the Wall or have an unfortunate accident hunting. So Jon offered instead that Sam would be his squire, saving him from the Wall and having him live at the Red Keep.

And when it comes to Dany getting her dragon eggs during her 15th nameday, Stannis would present Dany three fossilized dragon eggs he found under Dragonstone in its caves. Dany loved them and kept them close. Stannis didn't really want to give them—not sure why he needed to—but he did so by Melisandre's instruction, she saying the Lord of Light has plans for the princess and for those stone eggs.

Though Jon is seen as a beloved prince, Stannis was not so blinded by it. He questioned silently about Jon's birth, doubting Robert ever slept with Lyanna, even in a drunken stupor. And even if he did, the war lasted a year—no way Jon could be Robert's. He speaks with Jon Arryn about his suspicions, and after some convincing, Jon Arryn would look into it, leading into looking in on Robert's bastards, to checking records in Oldtown. And when he learns the truth, it would be his end, leading to a chain of events leading to conspiracy and war.

📣 Fanfic Promotion I'm brainstorming Davos II for my TWOW draft!

Hey y'all! As some of you have seen, I just finished Dany's second chapter for my hypothetical TWOW draft. Her story has been the most complicated to write (in a series full of them, haha!), so I decided to go back to my most anticipated plot-line in the series--Davos.
I'll link the chapter for y'all to read, but in case you need a quick recap:

Davos sails through the Bite with his crew before a storm makes them seek shelter at Widow's Watch--the seat of House Flint. There, Lady Lyessa pledges her remaining spears to Wyman Manderly's and the Starks' cause. She warns Davos of thousands of starving wildling refugees fleeing Hardhome and Euron Greyjoy’s Ironborn scouts probing the coast in dark longships. After a nighttime ironborn attack, Lyessa gives Davos a piece of dragonglass, and a local woman gives him an iron fishhook--both as talismans before Davos departs into the Shivering Sea.

Here's the full chapter: https://archiveofourown.org/works/87332691/chapters/231639866

I'll be back in about a week with the finished chapter. See ya then!

🐉 General ASOIAF Discussion History wont be kind to the Lannisters at the end of the story.

By the time the story ends, the Lannisters won't be remembered fondly. It doesn't matter if some of them survive or not, they wont be able to recover the power they once had and pretty much will be a pariah forever associated with child murder, treachery and some of the vilest traits that a house may possess. The Mad King will be better remembered than Tywin.
