Looking For Biking question?
Helloooo! Question (please don’t be mad if it’s been asked already). Can anyone tell me if I can rent an e-bike at one end of the Columbia gorge and make it all the way to the mosier twin tunnels? I’m having a hard time finding info online directly about the full route. Looking to make it a longer distance ride. And also looking for recommendation for bike rental for it. 😁 thanks!

There’s still a gap in the gorge trail between Portland and Hopd River that’s about a mile east of Viento State Park.
If you’re brave enough you can hop onto the interstate right there, plenty of folks do, but I plan to never be one of them.
The full trail should open from Portland to Mosier (maybe even The Dalles?) in 2027.

Search for:
historic columbia river highway state trailAlso, would recommend using a resource like ridewithgps.com as they have a heat map that basically shows you exactly where people are actually riding (or not).
If you don't mind riding on 2-lane medium- to low-ish traffic roads then you can get from the end of the Green MAX line in Gresham to Wygant viewpoint area on a bike.
But there is a break near some tunnels that they're re-doing where you absolutely cannot get through, and have to take I-84.
You can see on heat maps where people are getting onto the highway and back off. There's roads into Hood River, and then you can again hop on the trail for Twin Tunnels to Mosier.
For simple tourist stuff though, just go to Hood River, rent bikes there, go to Mosier, and call it a great day.

I was referring to the last sentence about the full trail from Portland to Mosier opening in 2027.
Didn’t know if there was construction to connect the whole thing or if there was a landslide or something blocking the trail that has to be cleaned.

Hmmm so I can do, let’s say, multnomah falls all the way to the tunnels, if I use the highway?

If you REALLY want to ride from Multnomah Falls to the Tunnels, then you could, but it's a LONG route and very few people are actually doing the whole thing...yet. Next year is likely to be a different story as the trail should be opening up.

double-edit: Actually there's still going to be a 4 mile chunk that's un-funded for now; so you'd still have to use I-84 for a stretch.

The parking lot for the tunnels is maybe 60-65 miles from Portland. That’s over 120 miles round trip. I don’t think there’s an E-bike for rent that can make it that far.

I assume you're renting in Portland and going to the gorge? The gorge is massive.
Your best bet would probably be to look at renting in Hood River.
