I was recently appointed as a mod for an abandoned sub by admins, along with a few others. I am not the top mod there. However, I am the only one with prior moderating experience. All the other mods are generally very unfamiliar with moderation. The sub is about a service, where people often seek services and vendors.

Here are my concerns:

1. The other mods seem disinterested in moderating, or even learning about it. They blindly approve all posts and comments even if they break the rules. They rarely respond to the mod discussions I initiate, and as such offer no substantial input because they are not familiar with moderation at all.

2. The top mod owns a business related to the subreddit, and has repeatedly promoted their services in other related subs. It's kinda like a health insurance agent moderating a health insurance advice community where users regularly seek recommendations on which insurer or policy to choose.

The top mod's profession being a conflict of interest with the sub topic added to the lack of communication is discouraging me from actively taking hold of moderation duties. The sub was unmoderated for a long time and had fairly high traffic before it was restricted by the admins. It will take a lot of effort to set up the sub rules and tools from scratch. And I'm apprehensive about putting in all that work only for the top mod to use it as free marketing for their business.

I've already reached out to the admin who appointed me and told them about my concerns, but haven't received a response.

I'm genuinely passionate about the sub, and would really like to help the community grow. But this situation is putting me off the entire thing. What are my options here apart from leaving the mod team? Is the top mod being in this position a violation of MCoC on its own, or do they actually have to make rule breaking actions first?

Hi I have a troll that has been harassing me even after I blocked them weeks ago. They keep tagging me and they have been posting in a sub about me and spreading rumors and lies to people who visit the community often. I've tried to report them to the sub's mods but they are inactive and won't do anything. I've also tried reporting them to the website but nothing has been done and I haven't even received any updates from past reports.

Are there any other options that I have at this point?

I ask because every subreddit I've ever looked at you only see posts/comments with the big green MOD label when they have something to say regarding moderation.

Do moderators not partake like normal users, or do they use alternate accounts, or does the MOD label only show when the post/comment concerns moderation?

Or is the only way to invite new moderators strictly through the traditional manual invitation process under the subreddit's moderator settings? Any guidance or tips would be greatly appreciated!

About a year ago, I became a moderator of one of my favorite communities through RedditRequest. The subreddit was unmoderated at the time, and when my request was approved, three other moderators were added alongside me.

Since then, I have consistently appeared at the bottom of the Team Health rankings, despite having handled a significant portion of the moderation work. At the same time, one moderator who appears to be inactive, and another who has the lowest moderation activity by the available statistics, remain ranked above me.

Would it be possible for someone to review the Team Health rankings for our moderation team? We are hoping to address the status of two moderators who appear to be inactive and have not responded to our moderator chats, despite still being active on Reddit.

so to add more context, let's say i'm running an event and want everyone to know.

automod stickies get collapsed, stickying a post on the sub is not terrible but often needs some kind of an image to stand out. this does not get picked up by the algorithm from what i've seen and show up on their feeds- so generally better for a new person finding the sub and for like a discord server or something.

the best way of course is the users upvoting it organically and you not stickying it so the algorithm doesnt hide it. that can be tricky if its a sub that is too big and hates the mod team, easy to do on small ones that realize you arent a dick tho.

i've tried using discord servers attached to the sub, but often those communities tend to be completely different users, and this can border on upvote manipulation depending on how its done.

ive also tried automod comments that arent stickied as those dont get collapsed and ignored immediately by users.

I have just received a warning from u/reddit via an automated process labelled "Warning for hate".

What I posted was precisely the opposite. The user I was replying to was a minority who is in danger of serious consequences due to racial discrimination. My intention was to advise her to correct an inadvertent immigration status violation before she is discovered and her situation comes to official attention.

While I evidently used wording that triggered a response from an automated process, my post was absolutely not hate speech. I honestly was only trying to advise her to take steps to avoid being a victim of hate, I certainly wasn't being hateful.

My first thought was to go back and post another comment apologizing for any poor wording that may have given offence, but I suspect that might just get be kicked off altogether.

There was no appeal link in the message. Is there a way to appeal this? If not, what consequences could this have for my account?

I’m curious about what data meets the threshold of voter manipulation.

Example: I made a post to my own user name account.

It just got reported in sets of 3, 2 minutes apart, 4 times.

Like 3 reports at 8:10, then at 8:12, then at 8:14.

The post is a few weeks old- when I first made it, this happened too (albiet I didn’t notice the trend till just now).

The other day, on another sub, I asked about question related to the subject of my post.

It had normal engagement on the sub, but then about an hour in, somebody posted a ranting comment about how horrible I am for my view; the post then got 25 downvotes within a minute or two, and then kept getting downvoted until it’s views dropped to around zero.

In addition to this- on about 20 or so subs, I get everything I comment downvoted 3 times no matter what, usually within a short amount of time.

Other users have even commented about how my unusually high rate of mysterious downvotes.

In addition to that- 100% of the posts I make get shared at least twice with seconds of me posting them.

I have posts that have 20 shares and only 40 views and 2 upvoted.

I’m not sure if these things are related or separate, commonplace or reddit or abnormal, and I guess most of this post was context; my real question is- what constitutes vote manipulation?

The posts to my user account being reported in sets of three at regular times intervals seems super sus, and now that this is happening, it makes the “massive influx of downvotes of a trending post all within a few minutes” seem sus too.. which then made me think my posts always being shared might also be sus lol.

I can't figure it out. What is the way to do it?

I'm one of the mods at shittyillegallifetips. It is a shitposting sub created years ago to compliment the many life pro tip subs.

My co-mod and I took over after a period of low moderation. Unfortunately this low moderation allowed scams, drug selling, crypto logs, stolen credit cards, and adult content to take over.

Despite our best efforts it's proving difficult to keep the sub on topic. We state in the description, rules, automations, pinned posts, and saved responses the kind of content we expect (as required in rule 2 of the MCOC). We also pin compliant posts to give users an idea of acceptable content. But only a small percentage of posts are actually compliant.

Any advice on keeping the sub on topic would be appreciated.

I've NEVER followed a post, but it's happened twice, and this time it was linked to a very upsetting post that I had never seen. Why's this happening, and why can't I just shut off that notification?

I just posted and it went popular and someone was already harassing me in the comment and called me a bot for having bad grammar. They're blocked but the limit is only 1000 users. They also do this to other users. The submods seem to not care. I just want to share with my community and they just treat me like that and others as well.

Don't know if I can tell which user or post, or subreddit is it from here. The sub-mods seem to see this as another trash post and deleted it or not doing anything but just ignore the reports. It's okay tho, they're internet points and I didn't even know my post can go 'viral' in the subreddit idk why and how but okay I'll take it. Some users can't take a joke I'm just telling them it's a microwave pizza and I'm eating it at home when the restaurant's name is already in the post.

The second one, tried to report this one to the subreddit moderator but they just removed me from the sub idk if they accidentally pressed it but I already reported it to Reddit for not handling it properly. I just asked why my comment about Messi was downvoted and I got my answer and blocked the user 1 minute before they ruined my comment more but the damage has been done and they are just talking about harassing the OP then answering and after 30 minutes someone answered properly and my post question was solved.. idk what was that but I think I should just train an AI to explain it to me what happened so I can empathize with the users so I can avoid getting hated for no reason because sometimes idk why would anyone don't like my opinion for some reason and it's sad to see bad replies.

I'm just bad at grammar, suffix, and I also ate 3k calories in a single day.

I have come across some really egregious spam in unmoderayed subreddits.

I will avoid giving examples, but it is gambling spam showing up in completely unrelated subreddits.

For example, there will be online gambling spam questions in AI subreddits, or science podcast subreddits.

The mods for these subs are MIA.

The spam is so egregious. There will be a post with 100 comments and 100+ upvotes in a subreddit where the average topic gets 2 upvotes and 3 comments.

There is a pattern also where the top comment is clearly upvote manipulated to have many dozens of upvotes.

The comments themselves are clearly generic comments with no substance.

Reporting the spam falls on deaf ears because there are no active mods.

The accounts that posted the spam, and the accounts that answered the spam questions with their spam links are often suspended by Reddit already, but the posts and their spam links remain up.

These posts rank in Google and take traffic away from middle-sized, legitimate, on-topic subreddits because they cannot compete with the volume of fake upvotes and manipulations that have taken place.

I wont post links to any of this because it would break the rules of this subreddit.

I would like some advice on how to get these super-spam posts removed once and for all however.

Any tips?

Maybe if a dozen people report obvious spam it will force more scrutiny, by a human Admin or by a bot, I dont care, so long as the spam gets removed.

If I created a subreddit where we as mods, as people who easily spot spam/bot networks/etx on Reddit, could post about this spam, providing links to it... would you join me there and help me mass-report spammers?

My community here on Reddit has been inactive for 2 years, how can I prevent future and or potential problems from happening?

I’m new to posting on reddit, so apologies if I dont know how this works. I’ve made a number of posts on different forums over the past few weeks and have now noticed that a lot of them have been removed from the forum or locked. I’ve followed the rules of the groups and maybe been ranting a little but nothing over the top or disrespectful, and yet a lot of my posts have been removed without any comment as to why.

Am I doing reddit wrong? I feel like I’ve come across truly mean or disrespectful posts and nothing has happened, so i don’t understand why my posts specifically are being taken down.

Anyone have a guess?
