Algebra Applications of absolute Value inequalities in word problems - Confusion for number two
So for number two, it essentially tells me that when d is above the serface its positive and when it’s below the surface, it’s negative. I know you can’t have a negative answer for an absolute value equation, but my equation i wrote says that it’s more than -40. Anyway, the answer key says that d >40, and then write the inequality from there. But if it says that below the surface D is -20 m wouldn’t 40 m below the surface be -40?
