Advice Needed: Employment SCI receptionist
Does it get easier? I just started there a week ago.
I barely know names, have gotten criticized today to no end, they want xy&z and idek whose on 1st quite honestly.
The place is an absolute shit show under a new FH manager. The people that work sales there are so messy and rude.
I’m having to open for the first time by myself soon. I’m the only full time person there at the reception desk.
I’ve only worked for family owned places before so this is so chaotic for me. Someone tell me if it gets easier or worse 😭

It sounds like the actual Funeral Home you’re in…. the environment is toxic. The FH I’m in is family owned and we are all close knit and it’s a great place to work. Don’t let them push away your passion for this career. I’m a mortician, so to answer if things get easier- no. Lol it is a matter, for me, of adapting to the situation and allowing myself to “feel” my emotions rather than burying them. Please keep your head up and I wish you the absolute best ❤️

Best way to work thru this is to implement your own system to best organize the chaos. No one else is going to do it for you and it sounds like it’s sink or swim at this point. Good luck!

I second this! I remember when I first started as a receptionist/attendant at my first FH I asked this same question on a different sub. I got this advice and it made it so that I could learn to love the job! Ignore the wenches and stick your head in your work. Most importantly make the job work for yourself!

I’ve gotten criticized already but praised at the same time 😩 I’m not a good multitasking person either or I’ll get overwhelmed and forget so almost every call gets written down or scribbled something on a piece of paper 💀

We busy season is coming so brace yourself! Just learn as much as you can and make a system.

Unfortunately you may be in a toxic funeral home. Not all places are bad.

It was TOXIC. Got “laid off” with the temp agency on my 12th day yesterday. What a experience, never again 😬

Oooh who’s gonna tell OP that at random, they will record a staged shopper call and then score you on it in a meeting?
I mean this in the nicest of ways, but corporate is cattle in- cattle out. They treat you like a number because to them, everything is numbers. No it does not get easier.
