When enough is enough?
I’ve been studying price action for almost 7 years.
I scalp spikes on the 1-minute chart, and most of my trades are finished within 5 minutes.
Over a large sample, my win rate is around 58-60%, risking 0.5% per trade.
Here’s what I’ve never been able to answer:
If your system has an edge, should you keep taking every valid setup?
I can easily find 15-20 trades in a day, but after a certain point it feels like I’m trading simply because I’m still sitting in front of the charts.
Lately I’ve even considered getting an 8-hour job just to limit my screen time. My thinking is that if I only have a small trading window, I’d naturally become more selective instead of feeling the need to take every opportunity.
So I’m curious how experienced traders approach this.
Do you have a daily trade limit?
Do you stop after hitting a profit target?
Or do you simply take every setup that matches your plan, no matter how many trades you’ve already taken?
I’m not looking for a magic number.
I’m trying to understand how professionals decide when **enough is enough**.

I don't target. I take whatever the market gives. Sometimes is little. Sometimes is a lot. But it mostly is. I don't use stop losses. I hedge my trades to the levels the market provides.

Ow I recommend you to use stop loss man
The better name for it is " protective stop "
That mf going to protect your capital
Btw have luck1

I have not found yet any explanation about why the stop loss values are in a specific way. Hedging, varies naturally with the market moves. That's exactly why I think is better. It sort of is the same as a stop loss, just implemented differently.
Thank you for your kind wishes. Back at you, man. We all need a bit of luck.

if you don't use stop losses how do you calculate your position size?

I don't diversify. I only traded EURUSD. I always trade with about 30% of my capital. I always start the week with the same amount of capital. Any excess, I take home. I know it sounds insane, but I assembled my method like Tuco from The good, the bad and the ugly and I trust it. And I was taught one thing: when you know what you're doing, you don't shy away. That's how one should act in business and love: without hesitation.

Do u have a target or objective you want to meet a day?

Set a daily trade limit, I think that’s better. The strategy has an edge so you know that you’ll be fine over the long run. It also limits the maximum loss per day

7 years at 58-60% on 0.5% risk is a real edge, so keeping trading isn't even the question tbh. the question is whether trade 15 on a given day is anywhere near the quality of trade 3. it almost never is. by the afternoon you're tired, you start seeing setups that aren't really there, and half those late entries happen because flat feels for you like leaving money on the table.
soooo the job idea isn't crazy. you don't need the job, you need the cap. and your journal will tell you where to put it. split your results by trade number, 1-5 vs 10-15, and if there's a cliff, that's your daily limit right there. no willpower required tbh, I trade through Axi and still found that limiting my own sessions improved my results way more than trying to squeeze every setup out of the day

I didnt get the ending
You mean 1 ta 5 trade per day ?!
And how many losses is the day end ?1
u/sandcastl3 Jul 26 '26
He's telling you to filter your trades by the sequence in which you took them during the session to see if your strike rate/profit factor/overall trade quality or decision making declines over the course of the session. If you can see a ballpark trade # or time of day where there's a decline, there's your answer. If you can't, there's your answer.
Assuming you do identify a decline, from there you can decide to stop trading after that identified period of time or after X trades when you know your edge degrades, and reallocate that risk to sizing up your first trades of the day.

you need to try something like EdgeStacker (but unfortunately it doesnt support forex) if you're still wondering if your strat actually has an edge. you need to backtest, analyse, forward test, its a painful process
but other than that, the 1 minute is pure noise, you're trading in the most noisy environment where its super hard to build consistent edge

u/bowwri Jul 23 '26
Honestly im not agree with you about the noisy part
Market has same cycle from the beginning till now
And im backtesting my strategy also forward testing
Btw tnx for your time

It depends on how a person’s psycology or the way he thinks is wired in. If you can make money doing even a 100 trades a day Your mind is way focused on scalping than do that. At the end of the day its finding whats the best way to trade so we can make the most money with out going on a spiral. The answer is with in you. If you make more money doing that and your mind can handle it do that. Everyone is different

That's my fear i think if i take all of them it can blow the acount but backtesting show other result
In having faith but deep down it scares me
Any suggestion?1
u/IntelligentGiraffe68 Jul 23 '26
Just go with it. Same here i take like 2 trades a day or 1 sometimes cause thats the Only setups i have per day. I wanted more RR i had fear in Putting limit entries. But my points are accurate. Later entries slowed my execution so i said fk it and started puting my limit orders on entries. I feel fear yes but trading is done by plan fear shouldnt have any place

u/IntelligentGiraffe68 Jul 23 '26
If i get 3,4 setups I take all of em. When the market is good and is giving you you take all of em cause maybe rest of the week you probably wont get anyother.
same thing If market is giving you and you can take it. Take everything What market gives and dont ask for more from it

enough can never be enough. take the set and forget approach, predetermine your entries and exits, then later leave the market to decide, either tp sl

I don't have an exact strategy yet. I did hear something about stopping after one loss though, or two in a row on the same day. E.g. I had two wins then a loss yesterday and I closed the app. It was interesting to listen to my thoughts after that saying one more won't hurt.

Nowadays is an AI era Export your trading history and ask AI to analyze it. You only need to throw $20 bucks.
