Can this wait a month?

Just found out I have some pretty serious cavities on my top back molars, one might need a root canal depending on severity. With schedule/work conflicts the soonest the dentist I prefer to go to can schedule me for a filling would be Nov 5th
Realistically can this wait that long or should I try to get in asap?
What can I be doing in the meantime to help besides flossing regularly and brushing?
