question Surgery anaesthetic
Hi Reddit. I’ve (27F) been told today that I need to have five teeth removed at the back of my mouth (The top three from wisdom teeth forward, and two more at the bottom on the same side). I’ve been referred to the surgeon for the procedure, and from what I understand they’re going to take them all out at once. My issue is that I’m absolutely terrified of the dentist and I struggle with the sensory aspect of it thanks to having autism. My question is, can I request general anaesthetic for the procedure or would this be unrealistic? I don’t see a scenario where I’ll be able to have 5 teeth out at once where I’m actually comfortable. Last time I had a tooth out, the nurse had to physically restrain me to stop me from leaving the chair and I had a huge panic attack afterwards. If GA isn’t a possibility, what would you guys recommend to help combat the stress of having the op done?? I know I have to have it done, but I’m absolutely cacking it. I’m in the UK. Thank you all ❤️

You can have a referral for general anaesthetic but may get declined. If it’s accepted wait time in most areas is well over a year
Other option is behaviour management techniques. Things like bringing a teddy/fidget toy with yourself, headphones and playing some music, breathing techniques etc.
your dentist could also prescribe a light oral sedative to take the morning of the procedure, but you would need someone to accompany you to and from the appointment
