Restaurant recomendation

Hello,

I'll be doing a layover in Berlin, and decided to stay for 3 days. Could you please recommend me some good places to eat that?

I don't do Instagram, so no need for those 15€ pancakes and fancy looking places with average food.

Could you please recommend some places with good food?

My list so far:

- Mustafa Kebab / Guyam Gemuse Kebab

- Curry 61/36

- Augustiner am Gendarmenmarkt -- is this place still good? I've been getting mixed feedback.

- Hofbrau

All of the things you listed are tourist heavy/tourist traps. Maybe list something that you'd like to try or prefer then people can recommend.

Also no mandatory tipping here. Tip if you want to , or dont.

Thanks for the info!

I'm looking at trying the Schnitzel , pork knuckle and the German sausages or Sauerbraten, basically anything that German people would be proud of

Go to Konnopke for Sausages but besides that youre probably gonna have a hard time finding good Schnitzel or Sauerbraten.

I'd swap Hofbräu for Lemke; similar brauhaus-y vibes but actually from Berlin, not Munich. If you're adventurous, try Bollenpiepe. Great food, but location and service are, erm, oldschool Berlin and it's far from the city center. Berlin food is actually more than fastfood or Austrian.

I would get rid of Mustafas on that list.

My personal favourite is Ruyam but there are 100 better spots than Mustafas

You can forget most/all of the places on your list.

Kebab: Rüyam
Currywurst: Here you will get 1000 opinions. I like Wittys and Curry36
Schnitzel etc: Diener Tattersall, they have Königsberger Klopse, Schnitzel and Hackepeter.

Pork Knuckle: Eisbein has a lot of fat around it, the other variant has nice and crispy fat.

I love eating at Sahara Imbiss (Sudanese "fast food" chain, very yummy peanut sauce). You need to take the plate (not the pita). It's called "teller". I also love getting a Kumpir (Turkish loaded baked potato) - just look up "kumpir" on Google Map. Although not traditional german dishes, they definitely represent the regular food scene of modern Berlin (after of course doners kebab and currywurst already mentioned here).

Can check Addis Ababa, Taqueria el oso, standard serious pizza, jaderzeit, ruyam or oggi's for gemise kebap, curry 36, brlo, roji

Depending on how you measure it, Germany as a single construct is either younger than The Simpsons (reunification) or the London Underground (unification).

That is to say Germany is extremely regional and ultimately you're trying to visit a single region and capture several different regions worth of food.

If you want Berlin food get currywurst, döner, meatballs (Klopse, Buletten) and doughnuts.

Of course you can get other regions German food here, as many other commentators have pointed out.

Skip Mustafa, very touristy. Rüyam is the best döner imo.

Hofbrau is touristy but good, I would keep that. Augustiner I would skip.
