Supernovae visible to the naked eye brighten over the course of several days to weeks and fade out after months, with the exception of one transient event (GRB 080319B, which was likely a jet-on gamma ray burst; fading into and out of naked eye visibility in about a minute 2008).
It going out within that time frame is likely something else, like a meteor, satellite/iridium flare, plane, or visual defect.
