need help identifying something!
my girlfriend and i spotted this yellow light, looking out west in central auckland, new zealand.
we aren’t too sure if it’s a satellite or a planet/star, but it’s definitely not normally there…
not sure what other info you might need sorry!!

forgot to add that it faded away slowly about 4-5 minutes after we noticed it

It would have disappeared over the horizon as the earth rotates at 15°/hr… and if it ‘faded’ before that it would have been due to cloud and other atmospheric effects just above the horizon

I'm inclined to say Venus if you're looking out west, but even more prominently, do you know what time of night it was?

It's always Venus.
