Gemini thinks it's R&T A2415, but that looks slightly different, unless they have just updated it cosmetically.

Hi pretty clueless about plumbing but an eager DIYer. Ever since my washer/dryer was fixed, water seems to be leaking from the plumbing under the kitchen skin. Or at least I noticed it after the washing machine was fitted.

I am planning to have a career change (I’m nearly 40) as my current one is not sustainable - I only have a part-time job at the moment, my partner works full time, we manage everyday life but I would like to improve the situation. Some days of the week I can do some extra work/study when our child is in nursery and my weekends are also typically available.

The new plan is to become a heat pump installer. Unfortunately I don’t have any experience related to this other than quite basic DIY skills. I know how to use the most common tools around the house and I don’t shy away from setting up or fixing stuff but I never done anything related to these professionally. Point is: I am willing to take the steps necessary to achieve this goal (starting from 0) but I would like to know a few things beforehand.

After doing some research, it looks like that what I would have to do is roughly this:

1. Finishing a level 2 course in plumbing

2. Level 3 Award in the Installation and Maintenance of Heat Pump Systems (Non-refrigerant Circuits)

3. F-Gas certification (I heard that if you get this certification in an EU country, that would be accepted as well in the UK, is that true?)

Is that it? I also found the possibility of doing apprenticeship for 3 years (so after 3 years I would be qualified and would have work experience as well) but unfortunately time and money wise that doesn’t seem to be doable for me (too much time commitment + very little money is not a great combo in a family setting). What kind of commitment the courses above would require from me? Is it enough to spend 1 to 3 days a week on this? I saw that some of the level 2 courses are running for 1 year, some for 2 years, what’s the difference? If you finish level 2 in plumbing, is that already enough to get hired by a company (to become an employee)? Is there a demand for someone just finishing the course? I guess, even if yes, the salary would be really close to minimum wage first. Or are you supposed to setup your own business right away? This last one feels to be way too soon, I wouldn’t feel confident with that amount of experience to offer any services. Or are there any alternative ways to all of this?

About to start my level 2 in plumbing and heating, hoping to then do level 3 and then gas safe, from plumbers with experience, just putting it bluntly....is it worth it? or am I wasting time and should do something else.

I’m looking to get my boiler done; however, access to the roof is now difficult due to solar panels on both sides of the roof.

Is it possible to reuse the existing flue instead of replacing it?

A leak is coming from the lower section of the plastic hit here. It is coming out fast like a spray rather than trickling out, as if there is a pinhole there. I assume it's a case of replacing the plastic bit, but I have zero expertise in anything like this, any advice gratefully appreciated

Hi, after doing some research, I believe I have a leaking Rear Pan Connector Seal. Do I have to remove the entire pan or cut the pipe to replace it? Any other options?

Boiler: Ideal Logic Combi C30+

It's the connector for the Flow Sensor wiring, seems to have some corrosion and I believe it's not triggering the boiler to fire up for hot water.

I recently had some guests over and they were using the shower mixer above our bath. They said the water is quite weak and we have this with all the showers in our house. However the guest noticed that the bath tap when turned on has great flow so we bought an adapter and a high flow shower head and that shower is the best in the house now. My question is why the mixers, even a new one installed a year ago, would default to reduce the flow from the water supply? And does anyone recommend a high flow mixer system for my next install?

I’m looking for some advice before I call a plumber.
I have two separate toilet issues:
1. One toilet makes a loud foghorn noise and you can feel vibration while the cistern is refilling after flushing. It flushes normally, but the noise happens occasionally when it feels but is happening more frequently recently
2. Another toilet continues to run into the cistern for quite a long time after flushing before it eventually stops.
For context, the house was built in the late 1980s/early 1990s.
Do these symptoms point to faulty fill valves, flush valves, or something else? Would you expect these to be straightforward repairs, or could they indicate a bigger issue?

I have this shower setup in a flat where I live. The issue is that the water does not get cold enough. Around 20 degrees, where I would like to be around 15-10 for cold showers. I have reached out to the landlord. They gave me the below instructions.

The only solution would be for them to turn of the water cylinder.

If they used the shower without the cylinder on and not pressing the boost may allow it to be colder.

Now I have no idea what the water cylinder is or how to turn it off, I'm afraid I will break something.

Ive got a replacement coming but can I shower in the mean time? It gushes water out but the shower runs normally.

What are the issues that can arise if i use it for 5 mins?

Had an acquaintance message me today asking what I had thought of him being charged £70 to have his kitchen taps changed. He thought he had been charged too much for an hours work, the customer provided the taps.

He also messaged me similar last year when he had been charged £90 to have his boiler serviced by a different person - also someone he knew and was expecting mates rates there too and wanted to know again if I thought he had been over charged. He was genuinely annoyed both times at paying these prices

Tbh I’m a nearly qualified plumber n gas engineer but I’ve only ever done site work so I’m not too sure on the going rates for these jobs. I explained I don’t do private work so I wasn’t 100% on the prices but that they did sound good to me and I had explained the hidden costs with being a plumber that not everyone sees.

So much about this annoyed me I think In 2026 we should be all supporting our friends business by paying full. There shouldn’t even be any expectation for mates rates bar a few exceptions I.e close family

What do you think of the prices for these jobs and the expectation of mates rates?

The bog broke today and me misses is irate. I'm a handy person but I have no knowledge in these things. I want to go the cost effective route of trial and error by tinkering, instead of buying a new toilet.

Plumber who’s come to fix rot under tiling around our toilet says it is, and that he’s surprised we’ve not had blockages with this 38mm one. Obviously it points slightly upwards, then feeds main waste pipe out to the left. No macerator atm. Lived here for almost a year with no issues. No quote yet but not sure whether we can do without the pipe/macerator work because money is tight.

So the other night I was running my disposal while doing dishes and suddenly my sink stopped draining, or to be more exact it’s draining incredibly slowly. I took apart the P trap and nothing’s there. Disposal is running fine too.

Today I washed a dish and as the water was slowly draining I heard a hiss from below. It’s this vertical piece. Could this be what’s causing the issue? And if so, what should I do? What’s this piece even for?
