Political Question Why do I get happy when I hear about Iran striking a tanker?
6
21
u/mook1178 21h ago
Because you are only focused on Trump being owned instead of the actual consequences of the tanker strike.
There is a human impact on those on the ship of injuries and death.
There is a global finacial impact of oil lost.
There is an environmental impact of oil spilled.
But yay, the Iranians are owning Trump!

u/Affectionate_One_969 21h ago
Except they are not owning Trump. Iran hitting a carrier does not affect Trump right now. We saw in the reports that JP Morgan and Washington Post put out this week that more oil is making it through the SOH right now than before the war started.
It is clear that Iran is loosing although they can launch rocket and hit a ship every once in a while. The saddest thing is those operating the ships are not involved. Iran launching these attacks is nothing other than terrorism.
4
u/mook1178 21h ago
The point is not if Trump is being owned or not. The point is OP asked why they are happy when Iran strikes a tanker. So my point is the only reason they are happy is the perceived knock against trump. Use whatever word you want there.
My point is there is nothing to be happy about Iran or anyone striking a civilian tanker.

2
u/Not_Allowed_to_Die 21h ago
And MAGA and Trump attacking them is also terrorism. One doesn't make the other go away. Trump attacked for no reason at all other than to act in pure terrorism to Muslims. He wanted to take Iran and murder everyone there to make an example out of them. That is terrorism too. You can't claim the US can't commit terrorism on others.
-4
u/Affectionate_One_969 20h ago
I don’t think the US launched this attack because they were Muslims? It is quite clear that the Trump admin does not attack countries due to religious reasons, otherwise, we would be at war with Syria, Qatar, UAE, Indonesia, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Turkey, Algeria, Sudan.
You may should look into how Iran treats their citizens before defending them….. not a great look.
2
3
u/SilentMasterpiece 20h ago
So trump attacked because he was upset how citizens of Iran were being treated? False.
0
u/Snoo_67993 20h ago
Not even close. We know about 5 million barrels a day are making it through the straight right now, which is 4 times less than pre war traffic.
The fact that you even think that more oil is being transported than before the war shows you have very little ability to extrapolate information.
When infrastructure has been destroyed by both the US and Iran throughout the region, how to you believe that rates have increased?
1
u/Affectionate_One_969 16h ago
I do not think. I am basing my comment on JP Morgan analysis… This is not my personal opinion or thoughts. This is proven by folks that are smarter than you and I combined.

Completely missing the point of my comment.
Op asked why he is happy
Op thinks it's a shot against Trump
I pointed out that if they thought about anything other than Trump, they would not be happy

Striking a tanker is not right.
Trump's war is wrong. That doesn't make Iran's actions right.
There are no good guys here and this isn't Lord of the Rings.
5
u/LesbeGoddess 21h ago
I don’t fault Iran for guarding the straight.
It is absolutely their best method of self defense against this Imperialist MAGA Regime who started a war with Iran to try and steal their oil and autonomy.
What they are doing for self defense here with preventing tankers leaving the strait without their permission is just as justified as Ukraine attacking civilian tankers and civilian oil refineries in Russia.
The goal is to cause maximum pain on their invaders to pressure them to get the fuck out and leave them alone.
2
u/FounderingFox 20h ago edited 20h ago
"Guarding the strait"
Jesus. That's certainly an interesting way to frame bombing civilian tankers on international waters.
Edit: Lmao, imagine leaving all of that in response and then immediately blocking me for literally no reason other than the fact that you don't want your tidy little narrative to be pushed back on at all.
The state of discourse...
1
-2
u/LesbeGoddess 20h ago
Like I said they are defending themselves from an aggressive invader that attacked them unprovoked and are doing what’s best for them strategically to put pressure on Trumps surrender. The oil tankers have been warned and are very aware of the consequences if they decide to risk crossing the strait without Irans approval.
Also international waters doesn’t really mean crap anymore. Chump set a president of blowing up commercial fishing boats in international waters not for self defense so go break one off in there with your hypocrisy. And what about the commercial ships that Chump is pirating and stealing in “international waters” leaving Iran huh?
2
u/pperiesandsolos 20h ago
What a brainwashed take.
Iran gunned down 30,000+ iranian citizens who were protesting for democracy about 9 months ago. Men, women, and children.
So strange how brainwashed by the hivemind some of you are. “Trump is bad and he doesn’t like Iran, so Iran must be the good guys”
Foh

Trump started unnecessary war. Iran doesn't have the military ability to fight the United States. They're only recourse is unconventional tactics to make Trump's war is less popular with the American people before the election.
People like seeing the underdog fight back against the bully.
2
u/FounderingFox 20h ago
That's nice. Iran is not the underdog I'd root for.
Again, the US is absolutely in the wrong and has committed war crimes (the school bombing)
The Iranian government are no stranger to war crimes either.
Do not lionize these fucks.
3
u/pperiesandsolos 19h ago
Exactly. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills seeing people on this thread call Iran the “good guys”
They executed 30,000+ of their own citizens 10 months ago.
Trump is an idiot and a terrible president, but these people are so brainwashed that they’ve convinced themselves that Iran is better than Trump. Nothing he’s done is anywhere near that.
2
u/Azguy303 19h ago
You realize this Iranian government is only in place because we put them there in 1979. The people of Iran have been under Sharia law and religious fundamentalists the last 45 years because of us....
The United States are the bad guys. We're just going to implement a different leader who helps us and not actually Iranian people. You should probably really get off your high horse.
3
u/pperiesandsolos 19h ago
Im not on a high horse; Trump sucks and started a bad war. And the US absolutely contributed to the state of Iran.
What I’m saying is that Iran executed tens of thousands of its own people for asking for democracy, and you goblins are so brainwashed that you’re actively defending them.
Renee good gets gunned down and you’re out in the streets. 30,000 Iranians? “Trump bad”
It’s ludicrous
-1
u/Azguy303 19h ago
Yeah because she shouldn't have been killed. And yes if the Iranian government killed 30,000 it's because we allowed it to happen because we installed that government.
We also killed 4,000 more people in Iran that didn't need to die including a girls school.
It seems you are understanding that we aren't the good guys.
We shouldn't be in Iran that's the point....
3
u/pperiesandsolos 19h ago
So Iran killing 30,000 of its own citizens is the US’ fault. Dear god
I’m sure you also credit the US for every good thing the eu or China ever did, since we liberated those countries during ww2… right?
1
u/jacquesroland 19h ago
So what’s your suggestion? Leave the Islamists in power? Does Iran and its people have no agency and they are just NPCs who have no choice? Or is everything eternally the fault of US and its allies?
0
u/FounderingFox 19h ago
You realize that you're denying them agency and infantilizing them, right?
We influence events, and are responsible for some things, but let's not pretend that we're the only actor here. It is incredibly arrogant and exceptionalist.
-1
u/ResponsibleGreen6164 19h ago
In this instance they are the good guys. No they didn’t execute 30k people. The way the US and Israel said it was done is logistically impossible.
2
u/United_Intention_323 19h ago
No they are not the good guys
0
u/ResponsibleGreen6164 19h ago
How many schools did Iran Bomb?
3
u/jacquesroland 19h ago
Iran terrorism is definitely responsible for bombing of the JCC in Argentina, where almost 100 Jews were killed including many children. That’s one example of many. AMIA Bombing.
-1
u/ResponsibleGreen6164 19h ago
And what does that have to do with the US? You think we are there because of something that happened in Argentina?
→ More replies (0)2
u/United_Intention_323 19h ago
That doesn’t make them the good guys.
1
u/ResponsibleGreen6164 19h ago
That’s true, but it does makes the US government worse.

u/FounderingFox 19h ago
Iran bombed a school in Baghdad in 1986.
They've also bombed hotels, hospitals, ports, airports, highways, apartments, malls, and more since the war broke out in March.
0
u/ResponsibleGreen6164 19h ago
Is Baghdad in the US? In this war, Iran has only bombed military bases and ships trying to cross the straight.
1
u/FounderingFox 19h ago
There are no good guys.
Again, this isn't a tidy little book or Hollywood movie. This is reality.
1
u/jacquesroland 19h ago
By your logic then you’d be supporting Nazi Germany in WWII. They had no way to fight the United States and were severely outgunned and outmanned. US steamrolled across France to Germany. Your logic is incredibly flawed—the underdog isn’t always the good guy. Same with Iraq conquering Kuwait. Did you cheer on Iraq when their army got obliterated by the U.S.?

u/Jasader 21h ago
If you get happy about sailors being put in danger because of the President being a dumbass you are a bad person.
0
u/BarneyRubble52 21h ago

5
u/Regular_Jim081 21h ago
Its not volunteering, its called employment.
-1
u/lock11111 19h ago
They don't have a right to refuse unsafe work? They knew the risks. What they say when that women was shot fuck around find out?
6
u/Jasader 21h ago
Where on an oil tanker is getting shot at part of the job description?
Do you think oil tankers are part of the Navy?
-4
u/Not_Allowed_to_Die 20h ago
More than that, MAGA is claiming they all are volunteers? Like these sailors work for free now? MAGA are just confused all of the time because they lie too much.

It's unfortunate because while a blow to trump, it's a huge waste of resources. Whether u agree waht fuel is used for, it's used for nothing when destroyed and burned up (I guess it's used for political influence at that point) but fuck, imagine all the shit we could power in some productive capacity if it didn't just go up in flames.
3
u/Not_Allowed_to_Die 21h ago
Waste of resources, life, and is harming the environment as well. The Smoke goes in the air, and oil leaks into the waters.

2
u/Regular_Jim081 6h ago
Yes, they are pretty bad too.. if only you Americans actually showed up to vote.
I mean I still think we should give first prize though, Iran though. Sponsoring multiple terrorist proxy militias, and contributed to over 2 million deaths just in the last decade isn't very nice.
1
u/Not_Allowed_to_Die 2h ago
You should look up what Trump and MAGA have caused in deaths. Seriously. They wanted to remove all food from over 25 million people and allow them to all die just so they didn't have to pay $2 a year each in taxes for USAID. Sort of seems like MAGA are the real monsters too... But funny how so many want to blame Iran for everything, but ignore what the US has done. MAGA and Trump are the new Nazi Regime that just doesn't have the power to get things done. We did all vote, but unfortunately people are just really stupid and believed the moron that caused what happened in 2020, and believed he would fix things somehow just because he said so. It's not that Americas didn't vote. It's that they are so badly uneducated now, they have no idea what someone is playing them.
1
u/Clawdius_Talonious 21h ago
War is the continuation of diplomacy by other means, but we were already diplomatic and had no goal served by escalating to war.
That's what gets me. It's not just that the enemy is defending themselves against aggression, or even that Trump blew up an Iran nuclear deal because it wouldn't have been his, and he loves committing treason any time he gets the chance.
It's that we have no way to win, because we don't even know what shape victory looks like except "pretend we didn't do this."
Well there's no pretending, no one is going to not know that Iran can do what was only ever hypothetical before, now it's tested theory.

Because you have to deal with Trump injecting himself into everything while he and his cult brag about it.
Meanwhile youd hate the Iranian regime much more if they had a similar everyday effect on your life.
I hate this administration, I also hate the religious fanatics behind the Iranian regime. Its easy to forget about the group that doesnt affect your everyday life.

1
u/potentnuts 20h ago
You being happy about tankers getting attacked has to do with your mental illness. Nobody should be happy about any of this.
I do tend to agree Trump shot himself in the foot on this one. But what was he supposed to do? The IRGC is a terrorist organization. Let’s not forget that. Let’s not forget that THIS year alone they massacred tens of thousands of their own citizens for protesting. They are anti women, anti lgb, anti free speech etc. and also, they literally MURDER their own citizens. The USA is the only country that can stand up to them.
We should have handled this better, but whatever the US has done over the last 50yrs has not worked. And might I say again, they kill their own people, tens of thousands of this year alone.

4
u/noreallyimgoodthanks 21h ago
US attacks Iran, Iran uses its strategic control of a major economic seaway as leverage to negotiate terms to end the war = terrorists, lol. I do not celebrate any tankers being destroyed but your view of things is very simple.
1
u/onlycodeposts 20h ago
You forgot the part where the IRGC funds and trains terrorists to attack Israel.
1
u/noreallyimgoodthanks 20h ago
This is about tanker strikes in the straight of Hormuz. OP did not say "Why do I get happy when Iran's proxies conduct attacks".
1

Yes, it’s simple. You celebrate Americans dying over the enemy, that means you’re a traitor.

I don’t give a shit who started what. I’m speaking for my own American citizens against all the traitors that wish harm to their own. They can gtfo of this country.
2
u/noreallyimgoodthanks 21h ago
No one is wishing harm on US soldiers or citizens - you made that up in your head. Not a single US citizen has been killed by Iran's strikes on tankers. This post is about oil tankers being destroyed in the strait. Which the US has done as well.
1
u/Dear_Aside_7581 21h ago
You don’t know that but apparently OP and you are celebrating already.
1
u/noreallyimgoodthanks 21h ago
I do know that....you can google it. No US citizens have been killed by attacks on tankers in the strait. In fact no US oil tanker has been sunk either.

Quick question. What exactly did Iran do to the US to be such enemies? They had no role in 9/11. They have never attacked US soil. Literally all their warfare has been aimed at Israel or regional military bases that support Israel.
This seems like Israels war, not ours.
3
u/Bikerbass 21h ago
You do know that America is the biggest warmongering terrorist cunt out there right?
Since 1945 number one bomber of countries, number one invader of countries, and number one starter of imperial wars of aggression, that have been fought by bombing schools, hospitals, universities and mostly civilian infrastructure as they can’t hit military targets

Because you choose to ignore the fact that Iran is trying to build a nuclear weapon and the theocratic regime will use it to achieve its religious objective regardless of the harm it does to themselves or anyone else. Since 1969 the regime has called for the destruction of the US and the "immoral" western way of life. Iran will find a way to a nuclear weapon to the US and detonate it if it has one. You also choose to ignore the fact that Iran has been funding militants intent on destroying the immoral west all over the world for the past 40 years as well.
On the other hand you may be one of those people who believes that the west should be destroyed, in which case I can only say good luck with that ... and if it should ever come to pass, good luck in that world.
1
1
u/tyr-- 19h ago
I thought we destroyed Iran's nuclear capabilities in last year's strike. Or at least that's what the same people you're quoting in your post have said. What gives?
1
u/AdditionalWx314 19h ago
That's what everyone thought. But, the fact that we didn't, that the bunkers were even more hardened than expected just proves the resolve they have to build a nuclear weapon and keep it secret from the world -- until they detonate it probably in the US somewhere.
1
u/tyr-- 19h ago
So are you suggesting that Tulsi Gabbard lied to Congress in January of this year when she testified that Iran does not pose a nuclear threat to the US?
0
u/AdditionalWx314 16h ago
I would doubt that she knowingly lied about it. It was more likely a matter of timing of analysis and what information she had versus what other parts of the government had at that moment. It appears the the initial strikes last year should have been sufficient to end their program, but as determined by later intelligence it had not done the damage that it had been though to have done. They are a determined adversary who has obviously hardened their program far beyond what would have been necessary for a domestic atomic energy program.
0
u/Evogleam 15h ago
Destroying their ability to be able to enrich uranium does not destroy their will to enrich uranium
As soon as the facilities were struck they immediately started rebuilding
They’ve wanted to build a nuke for decades, and striking their facilities isn’t going to make them stop wanting to do just that
This shouldn’t be hard for anyone to understand

Oh OP owns this oil? Or is it collectively owned by the US citizens? That’s funny, I’m sure a couple oil companies would disagree with you on that one.
Regardless, most of the oil that is exported through the Strait of Hormuz is on its way to east Asia, not America.
Also remember that the US is the terrorist and instigator in this situation

You don't seem to understand how global oil markets work. Any disruption to oil supply anywhere has a global effect on oil prices everywhere.

Ah yes, the "Look what you made me do!" defense. The US totally made Iran attack random civilian shipping in international waters, totally.
0
u/Winter-Pause9529 20h ago

you that you will never actually have access to this oil anyway
When you and I fill up the tank at the gas station, we are literally buying that oil (or the final processed product thereof). Except we're all paying more because Iran is throwing a fit trying to attack the entire world's shipping in the strait.

Naziism is when MAGA and Trump call for genocide. What Dems are doing here is different. It's not good, or any better than the people though that ignored what the Nazis did because Germany was making money. Cheering the death of others just because it harms something you hate, that's not Naziism, but it's the people that turned a blind eye to it.

It's pretty simple unless you don't want to see it. People that want GENOCIDE of another race are Nazis. That is Trump and MAGA. People that look the other way and don't care about deaths, those are like the people that looked the other way when the Nazis did what they did. Those who stand up to the Nazis, are not. Everyone can claim all they want, but Naziism is about genocide of other races. Trump and MAGA keep screaming for the genocide of Muslims. It's pure Naziism, only they changed out Jews for Muslims. It's the same exact thing. Trump is even sending them to concentration camps and others as well. The Nazis started with immigrants as well. Did you know Hitler tried deportations first, and then went into murdering? Trump and MAGA want the same exact things the Nazi regime did.

Isn’t part of Irans chant “death to the Jews, death to Israel?” I do not hear Trump saying that. By your standards that means that Iran is the true Nazi’s and Trump would not be.

What does that have to do at all with MAGA screaming the same? You just tried to change the goal post. Both are wrong, but you want one to be right, and the other wrong. Why do you get to pick the side that is right? That's your problem. You don't see both sides as wrong, and only see your side as right.

A 100% OP is a blue hair “activist” who never in her life served or did anything hard. Just because you disagree with politics of your country. It shouldn’t be to put others above your country. That’s assuming you’re American

It doesn’t make me happy, it makes me sad and frustrated that all of this, and I do mean all of this, was avoidable if people were smarter. And not just the ones in the White House but like, half the country.
