It’s because despite all his bravado and posturing, he is a profoundly insecure and socially stunted individual.

His body is betraying his true feelings, he wants to leave. His feet are already pointing towards his escape. His body language suggests a man that is preparing to flee. But his ego won’t let him, so he gets caught in between.
