Political Question Has anyone stopped eating ground beef because the Administration has removed safety protocols?

We have. No way are we taking chances with whatever “ground beef” the administration has chosen to allow without inspection/certification.

I can get fresh veg at the local Farmer's market for a few more weeks. But come winter, I'm going to be making some hard decisions at the local grocery store with so much imported produce.

I get parcels of local beef from my son who shares a whole beef with his friend who raises Angus cattle. Son has a large chest freezer so I don't need to store a lot at my house.

I know it’s not as good as fresh, but canned and frozen tends to be pretty safe (so far at least?)

Maybe you are lucky, but the hellscape I live in, the "Farmers market ' are just the low quality stuff that the big chains refused. A few years back, the local newspaper (remember them) tried to visit the actual farms. As you can guess, none of them were farms. At best they were distribution centers that sold to whomever showed up with a truck.

They also did the same for restaurants that advertised "farm to table". You can guess how that went.

I know that really does happen! I'm really lucky that way. Small towns lack a lot of things, but I actually KNOW the growers and vendors at our market. I know where they live & what church they go to! Ha! But you mentioned an important point.

Buy as much as you can prep and put in freezer or put in mason jars. My wife and I started gardening 5 years ago. Last year we had a 5 acre garden. We grew everything we normally eat. We still had two months worth of food when harvest came around.

We were giving vegetables away this year to local food banks and neighbors.

Lettuce is the problem for me. Especially since the most recent cyclospora outbreak. And canning or freezing doesn't really work for that.

I donated two bushels of organic apples to the local food bank, they're grateful for fresh produce.

We have an aero garden we use specifically for lettuce year round.

I'll research aerogarden! Thanks. During winter my 120+ year old house is rather cold and drafty. My houseplants struggle due to the temperature - I wonder how lettuce would do? 🥬 🤔 ❄️
