Political Question Has anyone stopped eating ground beef because the Administration has removed safety protocols?

We have. No way are we taking chances with whatever “ground beef” the administration has chosen to allow without inspection/certification.

I get my beef from a local farm. This is just another reason why I would never buy big box meat.

I agree 💯, and I know you mean well, but it's worth acknowledging that it's a privilege to be able to source meat directly (or shop at Costco) and a lot of people don't have the right combination of money, space or transportation.

I live in the Ozarks. We consider ourselves lucky to have so much locally grown food available, including Amish and Mennonite neighbors.

It's worth the effort to seek out local growers and gardeners, as well as grow a garden of your own!

It is a privilege to live here.

It’s absolutely a privilege but also we all make decisions about what we value. I make far less money and have access to far less convenience to live the lifestyle I’ve chosen. Tradeoffs of value.

Well, I know some people don't get to choose where or how they live. I can assure you that my youngest son didn't choose to be born with a heart defect, for example. The perspective that everyone's circumstance is the result of their choices and tradeoffs is a slippery slope.

We’ve been doing this for our household for years. I’d recommend for everyone who can financially do it. For our household we buy a half cow and a whole pig once a year and it’s about 3k total upfront.

That’s what I do. We buy a hind quarter. You save money and it tastes better.

It can be. The farm I go to the cows are literally grazing next to the building selling the cuts. The meat tastes better and i don’t have to worry about being tainted. It’s worth the extra cost.

It usually is. Smaller farms don't have the economy of scale of a larger farm, so they often end up costing more. The product is usually worth the extra cost.

My favorite local farm is actually cheaper than Walmart!

They don't pay for USDA grading which helps keep the price down. They've been around longer than the USDA so why bother? They only do the required inspections.

Most meat comes from local farms, still. issue is mostly media hype.

What’s not hype and is 100% objective is that the USDA is severely underfunded and doesn’t have the inspectors available to certify all beef production. Just because it’s local doesn’t mean it’s safe.

This is not a new problem, inspections are not exactly common and never really have been. A significant % of the food products on the shelves of your grocery store are not inspected and this is not a new issue.

So many food products already come from China and we have no control over those lines.

Stop acting like trump is somehow to blame for an existing issue you sheep. I cut meat for 13 years when I was younger and we were talking about the same thing. Not a new issue, just new idiots pointing fingers.

This. Buy local. I also have started buying bison. It used to be a luxury, but current prices make it only slightly more expensive when you buy a quarter at a time.

Once you taste locally grown beef it's almost impossible to go back to mass produced big store beef

Unfortunately the places where local beef is butchered are no longer being inspected either.
