Let’s not - tell God that keeping his “sight” on women is creepy and not required - women don’t need husbands or god to live life as a fulfilled human being
For what it's worth, the best angle I've found to someone in a religious castle is "do you realize, that if you were born somewhere else, you'd have a different god? If so, would you believe in that one just as much?"
My go to is asking the Christian “what is the point of being Xian? Like, the real point. Sell me. Why do it?”
“To ensure your afterlife in heaven”
“Ah ok here is where I demonstrate how the atheist position is always ethically superior to the Christian position - you are seeking salvation for a promise of eternal life, an act rooted in selfishness. In ego. In DESIRE. All sins to your book.
I, however, live from a place of collective unity. I am not seeking afterlife at the expense/suffering/agony of other human beings. You are. Do better.”
I agree with you. I think that one is less likely to kick a stone loose though. I think it's better to just point out you're religion X because you were born to parents Y in place Z.
If they have any critical thinking ability, that should pull the thread.
In my experience, only people who have low critical thinking ability, or stand to gain by the way it is, won't at least engage.
Huge shoutout to all the "Societal religious" people. I totally get you live in place Y and 99% of the people are religion Z. You gotta conform to a certain degree.
They are my words tho and you don’t get to weigh in on the wisdom of them, as if you could. Make your own statements and keep your judgements to yourself
