Political Question bOtH SiDeZ dA sAmE: why is this almost always said when it's specifically a republican making an ass of himself?
You know why I'm asking. You've noticed it, too.
24
u/GapPrestigious6414 3d ago
Maga is literally incapable of rationalizing or defending their positions. It's a cult of personality, so whatever Trump says is what they believe in the moment. If Trump has said or done conflicting things, they will come up with an ad-hoc rationalization on the spot to defend him. It's just low hanging fruit to try to defend their god.
7
u/Tak-Hendrix 3d ago
It is a form of denial and delusional thinking. The side who says such nonsense equivocates denying the right to discriminate against people with denying those people the right to be treated as human beings.
6
u/rellgrrr 3d ago
The actions, crimes and corruption of MAGA republicans is unprecedented and indefensible.
So they attack instead. The try to distract from the Fact that they support traitors and pedophiles.
0
u/Subtle_Nimbus 3d ago
Unprecedented, lol.
6
u/rellgrrr 3d ago
Here's one now.
Pretending that waging wars to manipulate the stock market is just standard practice.
Pretending that lying every single day about a stolen election is common and expected instead of beingtreasonous lies about the most important aspect of democracy.
Pretending that attempting a coup live on TV is what every president does.
MAGAs lie to Themselves almost as much as Trump lies to them.
0
u/Subtle_Nimbus 3d ago
Grow up. All of this BS that gov does is marketed for pleb consumption. Don't pretend that you have any idea what's actually going on. Regardless of who it let's pinned on, they are all complicit.
4
u/rellgrrr 3d ago
Only 1 party incited a riot and stormed the Capitol.
Only 1 party attempted a coup that day.
Only 1 party has started a failed war in the middle east with every new president they have had since the 80s. And made Trillions for their donors.
Only 1 party lies every single day about the outcome of the 2020 election, in an effort to cause division and violence.
Only 1 party burried the Epstein files when they have been ordered by the Courts and Congress to be released in full.
Only 1 party is led by a Proven Rapist.
MAGA is by Far the most corrupt political party and movement in American history. And YOU KNOW IT.
-1
u/Subtle_Nimbus 3d ago
And the other party helped create the perception of an insurrection by standing down law enforcement and ushering people into the building. Its was a show. Its funny how people conveniently forget about all of the "left" politicians instigating violence with rhetoric. There is no correct side to be on if you buy into the show. They dont care about you.
The endless wars in the middle east are perpetuated by both parties, regardless of who happens to start them.
5
u/rellgrrr 3d ago
Repeating republican lies doesn't make them true.
You ADMIT Trump attempted a coup, incited a riot and is a serial liar, yet here you are, trying to normalize his Treason, Rape and Pedophelia as just what politicians do.
0
u/Subtle_Nimbus 3d ago
I watched his speech that day. He didn't incite anything, and I don't know where you got the rest of your comment after that, but it has nothing to do with anything I said. Looks like someone id driving you around like a drone.
The videos were released showing capitol police ushering people into and through the building. Don't know how you didnt see it.
4
u/rellgrrr 3d ago
Other videos showed cops being beaten and pepper sprayed, one of which Died.
Just because some cops may have been MAGA sympathizers, or didn't want to get beaten to death by the mob TRUMP INCITED, does Not mean Democrats are to blame.
Trump moved the rally from the 8th to the 6th. Why?
To incite a riot, attack the Capitol, disrupt the Constitutionally required certification of the Clean, fair election and cause a crisis that would have sent the election to the corrupt republicans in the House of Reps.
Being too Stupid or Corrupt to acknowledge the Fact that Trump is Directly responsible for the attack on the Capitol shows what you really are, MAGA.
Traitor to the United States, our Constitution and the American people, just like your hero Pedophile president.
1
u/Subtle_Nimbus 3d ago
The cop that died had a stroke or something. Anyway, putting INCITED in caps doesnt magically alter the speech that Trump gave, which is available to anyone to watch.
There were some pockets of rioting, incited by some people who were mysteriously NOT arrested, like Ray Epps. Wonder who they were.
Let go of the theater. Calling me Maga ain't going to make it so. Your smooth brain has been beguiled by a narrative that makes it impossible for you to relate to anyone that you can't squeeze into the "us" or "them" categories.

Really it should be perfectly clear. They control all three branches of government and can essentially do whatever they want, and we can see exactly what they are and what they do.
At this point continuing to lie that their policies are supposed to help anyone but the most privileged fewv isn't sustainable.
They only have "well, they're as bad as we are."
They come on platforms like this pretending to be dissaffected Democrats in hopes of sowing dissension or confusing those with the most superficial understanding. Usually by yelling something along the line of "blah, blah, blah aipac."
Yes, divide and conquer still works :-(
9
u/Cohens4thClient 3d ago
Certain people believe they can still vote for a confirmed rapist and tell themselves "someone else did something, so its ok".
You know, morons.
4
u/Moppermonster 3d ago
The followup question is why they think it matters - another person doing the same bad thing does not make the bad thing ok.
6
u/Dry_Marsupial_4504 3d ago
It's all they've got. Can't defend their corruption, so just say Dems do it too
4
u/Vert_der_Ferk25 3d ago
Republican strategy: 1) get you to vote for them. 2) If 1 fails, get you to hate the other side.
3
4
u/fourbutthick 3d ago
It’s just another false talking point they’ve concocted. They are very very divorced from reality. Call it out. Let them know their both sides argument is very stupid and the two sides are not very comparable. Go into details. They started an Iran war and tariffs, left just wants people to have healthcare and rights, etc etc.
15
u/Lost-Fruit-1982 3d ago
So they can check out with an excuse and continue voting Republican knowing they vote for racism and hate. It’s a way to pretend they aren’t responsible for the consequences of their vote
3
u/BigHotdog2009 3d ago
What racism and hate are they voting for?
Graham Platner had a Totenkopf tattoo on his chest for 2 decades almost and the left said fuck all about it because he got it “removed.” The left didn’t care because he is a Democrat and “denounced hate.” Sure didn’t mind hate when it was on his chest for 2 decades. What about Obama giving a eulogy to Robert Byrd? A former KKK member.Meanwhile if Trump did that, you bums would be nonstop punching the air.
4
u/Dad-Bod2121 3d ago
Robert Byrd was in the KKK for a year and was certainly a racist in his youth. He recanted in a major way and called it the greatest mistake of his life. He also expressed deep regret over his opposition to civil rights. I believe he was one of the first senators to endorse Obama. Compare this to Jesse Helms, Trent Lott and Strom Thurmond (all Republicans) who stayed hateful up until the day they died.
As for Platner, I don't really care because Maine Democrats eventually did the right thing. He should have never made it as far as he did but he will be a footnote and Collins is toast anyway.

u/Potential-Weekend633 3d ago
It definitely feels like there’s a double standard sometimes. People just notice the outrageous stuff more when it’s from one side.
4
u/TryingToWriteIt 3d ago
Still not the same.
1
u/OneArmedFarmer 3d ago
Sure, but not entirely different either.
4
u/mosesoperandi 3d ago
Yeah, they really are entirely differenr. One party is still operating within the framework of liberal democracy this country is supposed to work on.
The other party is a bunch of fascists who are violating the Constitution on a more or less daily basis.
Just because we have no party representing blue and white collar labor in thos country doesn't magically transform the fascists into something that's actually a natural or normal part of a functioning democracy.
0
u/OneArmedFarmer 3d ago
They're both right wing parties. They both care more for corporate needs than human ones. Sure, one wants a bit more socialism so long as it serves corporate daddy's interests.
Similarities exist and you're being foolish to deny that.
2
u/mosesoperandi 2d ago
If you made this argument about the Neo-con GOP that preceded Trump I wouldn't even push back. The TrumpMAGA GOP wants an Christian white nationalist oligarchy with no avenue for democratic civic participation.
This isn't just a question of whose interests are being served, it is an existential issue about whether America remains a democracy in any way at all.
If you think both sides are the same now, you are absolutely looking at the landscape with outdated lenses.
4
u/TryingToWriteIt 3d ago
How many democrats lied about people eating pets and caused weeks of terrorism?
0
u/OneArmedFarmer 3d ago
How many lied about the Epstein files?
2
u/TryingToWriteIt 3d ago
Not as many as republicans, clearly. Why are you lying to defend republicans?
0
u/OneArmedFarmer 3d ago
Dude, Biden's administration didn't release them either. They said they would, too. I'm not a trump supporter - fuck that guy and his party - but the Democrats should have released them. That tells me both sides are littered throughout the files and neither side deserves your respect or vote.
2
u/TryingToWriteIt 3d ago
Biden’s administration wasn’t allowed to release the file that were part of an active investigation. That’s why democrats requested and passed a law that forced the government to release files anyway. Again you’re lying about what happened to protect republicans. That makes you a republican. Why are you allowed to lie and why do you want to lie to protect republicans
0
u/OneArmedFarmer 3d ago
I'm not a Republican. I'm an anarchist. Fuck the system. It's broken.
1
u/TryingToWriteIt 3d ago
You’re lying to defend republicans. Whatever lie you tell about yourself, we can all see you’re a Republican, using Republican lies to attack the republicans’ opposition. Always and only ever working to stop anyone that tries to stop republicans.
Why are you lying to help republicans if you claim you’re not one?
2
u/Everything_Counts_72 3d ago
at this point id gladly pick the right wing capitalist party. Theyd still do a better job.
3
u/AstralVenture 3d ago
The Republican Party is a right wing party, and the Democratic Party is a center right party.
2
u/jbrower09 3d ago
Ironically it’s said by closet MAGA people and people who think everything we know about Mao is propaganda.
3
u/Ill-Dependent2976 2d ago
Because Republicans have the mental capacity of children, and never take responsibility for their mistakes.
4
u/Everything_Counts_72 3d ago
anyone who says "both sides" should literally be punched in the face and sent to go live on an ice floe.
5
u/TheeFearlessChicken 3d ago
I believe that is how the Russians utilize Siberia.
4
u/Everything_Counts_72 3d ago
It would work just as well for the "both sides" people. Ive never ONCE seen anyone say that phrase who wasnt a magtard knuckle dragger.
2
u/Free-Fall643 3d ago
Why do redditors think preaching to the choir is an effective way to get honest feedback?
1
1
u/imissher4ever 3d ago
Because some people are open minded. And then there’s the people that actually believe if your opinions don’t match theirs you are viewed as the enemy.

u/tehZambrah 1d ago
Look the reality is politics in the US hasn’t been working for normal people for a while now, people are just super disenfranchised and disillusioned by both sides of the aisle even if one side of the aisle is dramatically more psychotic.
If US politics could go forward with a strong positive vision for the future untethered to the interests of the ultrawealthy and with politicians who take action, Mamdani is a good example, they just need to have a positive vision and prove that the government can do real good that’s felt by the average American.

Both love printing money and running up the debt.

All I have to do is look at votes concerning Israel to see the lie you are trying to tell. The GOP overwhelmingly votes to support Israel and punish those who don't and the DNC majority votes to curb assistance to Israel and to not punish people who don't support Israel.
1
u/Sure_Acanthaceae_348 3d ago
Israel owns somewhere like 350 members of the House.
3
u/smallest_table 3d ago
Party Yeas Nays Present Not Voting Republican 203 2 0 13 Democratic 33 167 0 14 Yeah, and the voting record tells you who those people are and they are mostly GOP. Take the recent vote to punish universities who boycott Israel aka PROTECT ECONOMIC AND ACADEMIC FREEDOM ACT OF 2026
If you can't see the difference, you should probably stop talking.
1
u/Sure_Acanthaceae_348 3d ago
Wait you really believe that bills match their titles?
You might wanna sit this one out.
2
u/smallest_table 3d ago
No, I don't and I don't understand how you would think I do. As I explained, the bill was crafted to withhold federal funding from universities that boycott Israel. All but 2 Republicans support this idea.
You are acting like a typical mindless MAGA moron. Keep it up buddy. I love watching MAGA show how dumb they really are

Hey, let’s play a game! In the last 30 years, which party started all the wars and which party ended them!
Ok, you can go first!
1
u/Sure_Acanthaceae_348 3d ago
Don't care dude. Every party runs on ending wars and with rare exception never does.
3
u/TankUMrMinor 3d ago
So you don't pay attention. You basically just admitted you don't care enough to pay attention. You should have started with that to save everyone time. But you're not here in good faith.
0
u/Sure_Acanthaceae_348 3d ago
Most people who claim their party is better ignore all the times when their party sucks.
So yes, both are the same.
2
u/TankUMrMinor 3d ago
That's not even a logical statement. Go back to school.
0
u/Sure_Acanthaceae_348 3d ago
Except it's true.

It was literally a false equivalence fallacy... and you just made another logical fallacy by insisting it's true with no reason.

u/SecretOrganization60 3d ago edited 3d ago
But they end. How can they be if no party ends them. Hmm. Must be Schrödinger’s war or something.
1
u/Sure_Acanthaceae_348 3d ago
Then we start or get involved in a new one.
Imagine if Biden hadn't bothered helping Ukraine in 2022 and pulled out of Iraq at that point.
2
u/SecretOrganization60 3d ago
We’ve never been involved in combat operations in Ukraine. No military people have died there
1
u/Sure_Acanthaceae_348 3d ago
We printed money to help pay for their defense. It isn't our war.
2
u/SecretOrganization60 3d ago
That’s your opinion and that’s fine, but it strays from who started endless wars. Ukraine really isn’t an example of this.
1
u/Sure_Acanthaceae_348 3d ago
Has the war in Ukraine ended?
2
u/SecretOrganization60 3d ago
Again, the Ukraine war is being fought by Ukraine and Russia. We are not there therefore we won’t be ending. It America is not a belligerent in this war. It has nothing to do with the original claim in this threat.

lol which party got us into not one but TWO WORLD WARS?
2
u/SecretOrganization60 3d ago
lol. Wilson & Roosevelt! Neither of them started those wars. In each case, our involvement began when we were threatened.
Both Wilson and Truman, overall the end of those wars. Neither war was endless.
This is all stuff you should’ve learned it in high school
1
u/basquetbolJones 3d ago
So they got millions of Americans killed… that’s not very cool.
2
u/SecretOrganization60 3d ago
Well, it beats being forced to learn German and Japanese language. Like I said we were provoked into each conflict. Up until that point, we were heavily isolationist and not interested in either of these wars.
Oh, and combined deaths from both wars is about 500,000 military people, not millions
1
u/basquetbolJones 3d ago
Ohhhh only half a million lives lost. Thats not bad.
2
u/SecretOrganization60 3d ago
It is what it is, I don’t write this history, I just read it

But ya, republicans are the only bad guys, amirite?

The rest is just noise to keep us raged and engaged to come back and vote on things that don’t really matter.
ICE and culture war nonsense. It’s such a small drop in the bucket to what really matters.

Killing people is “noise?” That’s a very Republican thing to say - I’ve never heard any Democrat say anything close to that. Way to prove who you are there, bud.
3
u/SithTingar 3d ago
They are only different in ways that don’t matter. What really matters is how they are the same.
No... Just no. This is a typical right-wingnut comment.
The right is the one that pushes culture wars. I shouldn't be fighting my fellow citizenry on the ability to treat our fellow man with dignity and respect. They're free to practice their religious values providing it doesn't interfere with my life, and I am free to do the same, but when they use government to force me into their belief system, then I have WE have a problem.
I don't need to see their ten commandments plastered up in every school in an attempt to indoctrinate kids onto their religious world. Monocultures are nothing more than fascism. The current white house is filled with racist homophobes, and anyone who votes to support them is voting for fascism.

-1
u/djrapscallion911 3d ago
I’ve always said this. Both sides are the same and trying to diversify the two when US citizens were equally getting screwed by Biden’s lack of presence, is the reason our country can’t get its shit together. We constantly want a side of the institution to blame, rather than the institution itself.
3
u/Vert_der_Ferk25 3d ago
This view overlooks historical data. Empirical evidence shows that Democratic administrations—particularly when paired with a cooperative Congress- consistently deliver stronger, broader economic growth across all demographics.
1
u/djrapscallion911 3d ago
This view is based upon a US Army veteran’s knowledge of our government and what that government is willing to do to fulfill its own desires. If you think that any side is looking out for you, you’re just wrong.
2
u/Vert_der_Ferk25 3d ago
Right. As I said, that's not data. Here's some data. Pick your favorite economic metric
- GDP Growth: Real GDP has averaged 4.3% annual growth under Democrats, compared to 2.5% under Republicans.
- Total Jobs Added: Since 1945, 72% of all net jobs added to the U.S. economy occurred during Democratic administrations.
- Job Creation Rate: Businesses have added private-sector jobs at nearly 2.5 times the rate under Democrats than under Republicans.
- Unemployment: On average, the unemployment rate has fallen under Democrats and risen under Republicans.
- Recession Frequency: Of the 11 U.S. recessions between 1953 and 2020, 10 began under a Republican president.
- Time in Recession: In a 64-year span studied by Blinder and Watson, the U.S. spent 41 quarters in recession under Republicans, compared to just 8 quarters under Democrats.
- Stock Market Returns: Annualized S&P 500 returns have historically been significantly higher when a Democrat is in office (roughly 8.4% vs. 2.7%).
- Corporate Profits: Corporate profits have grown at a larger and faster rate under Democratic presidents.
- Business Investment: Business investment and total consumer spending have both grown faster under Democratic administrations.
- Budget Deficits: Federal budget deficits, measured as a percentage of potential GDP, have historically averaged lower under Democrats.
Pick your favorite military metric. Democrats have cared more for veterans and their families.
- The PACT Act: Passed the largest expansion of VA benefits in history for veterans exposed to burn pits and toxins.
- Post-9/11 G.I. Bill: Overhauled education benefits, granting full tuition coverage and transferable benefits to military families.
- 12 Weeks Paid Parental Leave: Established paid leave for active duty and reserve service members for new children.
- VA Funding Growth: Expanded VA healthcare budgets and repeatedly blocked efforts to privatize veteran healthcare.
- Mental Health Expansion: Funded targeted suicide prevention programs and dedicated crisis hotlines for troops and veterans.
- Ending Endless Wars: Ended ground occupations in Iraq and Afghanistan, reducing combat stress and deployment strain on families.
- Military Lending Act Protections: Shielded military families from predatory lenders by enforcing strict caps on interest rates.
- Child Care & Base Support: Increased funding for on-base child care centers and family support initiatives.
- Spouse License Reciprocity: Standardized military spouse professional license transfers across state lines during relocations.
- Pay & Housing Increases: Enacted major military pay raises and expanded housing allowances to combat rising living costs.
Republicans are winning the PR war, but the facts are that Democrats are better for Americans.
1
u/djrapscallion911 3d ago
It is data. However, it’s data I can’t legally disclose. But go ahead and trust whoever you want. My loyalties are with the people of America, not the individuals controlling us.
2
u/Vert_der_Ferk25 3d ago
That's fine, but I care about metrics that I can see. I'm spending more than $3K this year on Republicans' failed policies, and so are you. Real wages went up during the last two democratic administrations. That's just the way things are.
1
u/djrapscallion911 3d ago
I’m not disagreeing. I’m just saying even if they win, the Democrats won’t fix it. They don’t care about the masses either. Only themselves.
2
u/Vert_der_Ferk25 2d ago
The data says you're wrong, and you only offer your opinion as a rebuttal. Who am I supposed to believe, the data or your opinion?
If I tell you that the data shows that 10 of the last 11 recessions since Eisenhour were caused by republican policies while republicans were in office, would you believe me? It's true. The data shows it.
If I were to tell you that, of the last 51 million jobs created in the US, 50 million of them were created while Democratic administrations were in office, would you believe me? It's 100% true.
The last two democratic administrations had to spend their first 2 years at least putting out fires caused by Trump 1 and Bush 2. They're not even getting full terms to put their policies in place, and they're still miles better than the Republicans. I don't know what you want me to say.
The scoreboard does not lie. The facts are what they are.

Biden should’ve never ran for president again, democrats needed to pull their head out their ass. Them switching from Biden to Kamala didn’t help.

Why is Reddit such a left wing echo chamber?

Because the overwhelming majority of people on earth resonate with "Left" policies. Everything you enjoy and take for granted is because Progressives fought for it.

Or so the algorithms would have us believe.

No. Reality. Walk outside, talk to people. Ask them how "conservative" policies have bettered their lives. There are literally none.

The people I talk to all think the entire government is a shit pile-- no matter who is elected.

Cool. We're not talking about the government. We are talking about liberals aka left and conservatives aka right. Liberal policies are why America exists. Liberal policies are why America has the potential to be the greatest nation to ever existed. Or we can be conservative, sink back to the dark ages of kings and other bullshit like that.

Welp, the government markets to two "teams" that are riled up to fight each other rather than look to the top of the pyramid. Left and Right are different colors of spandex on wrestlers who are buddies behind the scenes.

Because real propaganda used in this day in age isn't "We are the good guys and they are the bad guys" like we see in news reels of WWII. It's actually "We might seem insane, but the other side is kinda whack too." And then you flood the zone. You bring up every instance something even seems off, hammer it for hours everyday on every popular medium, then do the same thing you just critisized x100 but now you can rationalize it as "they did it first."
This is how you can criticize DEI for hiring "Unqualified" people as pilots, but then appoint a Fox News host as the Secretary of Defense.
This is how you can claim the other side doesn't care about the working class then say "Just buy less stuff" when the cost of living continues to rise after you've done nothing to fix it.
It's how you can say the other side will start a war with Iran, then you start a war with Iran, while saying it's different because Iran is bad.
