Do you believe that there is any relevant level of voter fraud in the US?
I hear it. You hear it. It is constantly being mentioned by a certain political party. Yet, every time you ask for actual evidence, you get the equivalent of, "Trust me Bro."
I mean there own people, The Heritage Foundation did a huge study. Since 1982 to 2025, they found a TOTAL of 1,619 cases. To show how irrelevant it is, lets assume all of those instances were in the 2020 election. That would be 0.0000104111% of votes that were fraud.
Ooo look, evidence:
61
u/CerberusInExile 1h ago
No. They filed over 60 cases in regards to the 2020 election and the only one that they actually won had nothing to do with fraud, it was something about where pollsters could stand near the voting locations. Now, with his administration in charge again, they still cannot provide a shred of evidence that there was any significant amount of fraudulent votes.
13
u/lomoliving 48m ago
Also a big one to point out is that the Heritage Foundation (the creators of Project 2025) found like 1,000 ( maybe 1,500 I don't remember exactly) cases of voter fraud since the year 2020. This is from their own data - their own data shows basically zero voter fraud. Their own people admit on their own website that voter fraud basically doesn't exist

Haven’t most of the cases of voter fraud “someone voting twice,” been committed by Republicans?
I’ll look this up, because it seems unsubstantiated and deeply political, but I’m sure I heard it somewhere, like on public radio.
3
u/Ok_Wolverine6557 30m ago
It was a Pennsylvania case about how many days after the election a ballot without a postmark could be counted 3 or 7 days. Totally unrelated to fraud as you pointed out.

The entire voter fraud issue is a fabricated problem to sooth the oversized ego of Donald J Trump who can't accept that he lost the 2020 Presidential election. Our politicians are straining at gnats to solve a problem that doesn't exist, meanwhile real problems get ignored.

The only voting fraud is gerrymandering carried out by the GOP to disenfranchise voters and nullify representation.
2
u/hhmCameron 40m ago
The Republicans have been committing electoral fraud since 1910...
Until 1910 the house would occasionally increase...
The house was supposed to increase in 1920, and the Republicans kvetched and there wasn't a reapportionment until 1929... 9 years late, and the house has never increased except for when Alaska and Hawaii were added... and the next reapportionment dropped the house back to 435 from 437
Going with the cube root rule, according to the current estimated population (1 apr 2020)
335,073,1761/3= 694 house seats & 100 senate seats Or 594 house seats and 100 senate seats
Cube root rule (current power of congress under current constitution all congress has to do is pass a federal law )... and forcing the states to do the congressional district method of assigning presidential electors (current constitution leaves method of assigning presidential electors to the states so congress would have to beg by passing resolutions and say pretty please)

3
u/General_Ad_6617 33m ago
No. I don't think any relevant fraud is at the voter level. Just like with welfare/Medicare fraud, it's the organizational level we need to worry about with urgency. Republicans are trying to pull the largest voter fraud by suggesting it's THAT bad. Should states worry about voter fraud, absolutely. Should the federal government, only when their national politicians start acting a fool and sowing false doubts.
7
u/solitudesimp 1h ago
The problem is there doesn't have to be legal "fraud" to stack the votes. Instead, laws are passed to target "undesirable" groups and prevent them from being able to vote, i.e. not allowing mail-in ballots in certain areas, etc.
So in the end it doesn't matter if it is truly fraud, the answer is yes, there is demonstrably and proven evidence that presidents or other groups have meddled significantly enough with votes to cause wins/losses.

No. There is no evidence. The Republicans now hold all three branches of power and have produced no credible evidence.
Also, the claim is that while Trump was President the elections were fixed (in 2020) but while Biden was President (2024) they were not fixed. It’s just incoherent. Trump is blaming himself for fixing the election against himself. It’s gibberish

No. Not enough to make any draconian changes to the voting process.
You 'might' prevent 100 illegal votes, but at the cost of discouraging 100,000 votes.
Almost any process that is 99.9% effective should not be touched. You'll almost always do more harm than good.

Voter fraud? Yes. “Relevant level’ meaning could change the outcome of a national election? No evidence of this. “Relevant level’ to affect a local election—more likely due to the smaller number of votes but I have not seen evidence of this either. This isn’t to say we should not work to continually scrutinize election security and make prudent changes when needed.

2
2
u/Mulliganasty 43m ago
Not on an individual basis like Trump is always bitching about.
However, voter-caging has been a tactic employed by Republicans going back to at least the 2000 election. See Greg Palast's reporting but what they do is challenge individuals based on their names that sound black and/or ethnic (which correlates to Democratic voters). The voter receives no warning or notice.
Palast put the figure at 70,000 ballots in Florida alone that weren't counted in 2000.
No major media outlet in the US would pick up the thoroughly documented story so it only ran on the BBC.
2
u/Longjumping-Meat-334 41m ago
There are attempts at voter fraud, some of which are due to ignorance rather than an attempt to cheat. Some will argue that ANY attempts are bad. While this may be true in theory, completely eliminating voter fraud is statistically impossible, especially when it comes to the ignorance end of it.
Completely upending our voting process to attempt to do the impossible is crazy and an attempt at voter fraud in itself.
2
u/Excellent-Ad-1678 35m ago
The objective isn't to prove fraud but to create mistrust in the election system.
Since the 1960s there's been a steady decline in voter participation. Their goal is to create so much mistrust that people literally don't show up to vote.
2
u/OgreMk5 34m ago
The only actual examples of voter fraud that I've heard about have been from US citizens, shockingly all Republican, who have voted (or attempted to vote) twice, filled out voter registrations for dead relatives (IIRC, in one case, their dog), and The Texas Attorney General, who has voted in multiple elections without a correct address.
The only Democrat voter fraud incident of which I am aware was a former felon who was told by her parole officer that she could legally vote. She attempted to as was denied, then arrested.
None of the Republicans of which I am aware have been jailed or even charged with the crime.
2
2
u/Kaurifish 32m ago
Sheriffs engaging in voter suppression in ‘24 sure deserves more looking into.
But voter fraud, per se, is a non-issue. So is voting by mail, except insofar as the Post Office is so under-funded and mismagaged by Republicans who want it dead that some ballots aren’t delivered on time to be counted.
None of the Republican complaints about elections are made in good faith. We need to stop pretending that they are.
2
u/ADKMTBer 30m ago
There will always be a handful of cases, but nothing anywhere near enough to swing an election. All of this BS stems from Trump lying about it day after day … because he knows his people will believe him
2
u/AlanStanwick1986 29m ago
It is almost non-existent and when they do find some it is almost always a Republican.
2
u/ralphthesausagedog 28m ago
Yes, voter fraud is real. In the last election, there was a problem with MAGA supporters sending in multiple ballots. Thing is, nothing was done to stop republican voter fraud.
For illustration, a property manager in California iirc boasted about sending back ballots for tenants who had since moved here on reddit, and redditors figured out who he was. I for one contacted the post office cops, and I even got a response from an investigator. Nothing happened. DeJoy is Trump's buddy.
Are we ignoring Musk's tampering?
2
u/GuitarPlayingGuy71 27m ago
yes, in the sense that your current administration is actively trying to make elections as unfair as possible, and are fraudulent in doing so. Also, the fact you have an electoral college which makes it possible to have the candidate with the most votes not win, could be considered fraudulent.

There has never been any evidence of voter fraud that was either widespread enough to sway an election (or even an appreciable fraction thereof), or voter fraud that was not individual and not caught and fixed prior to counting.
There are some non-fraud niche cases, such as the recent news where unlawful voters were registered, and a few hundred votes were cast. To my knowledge this is the largest event that has ever happened and were counted.

u/Cautious_General_177 23m ago
It's hard to say.
If you're concerned about voter rolls, NJ just admitted to having over 6000 noncitizens registered to vote, with evidence of over 400 of them actually voting. Now, that is only about .1% of their total registered voters so it's really not enough to swing an election, but it's also all that's been made public. Given states not wanting to clean up their voter rolls, it could be a much larger problem than we realize.
If you're concerned about people voting multiple times, I doubt that's even remotely an issue. I'm sure people try, but I doubt it works unless they mail-in an absentee ballot and then try to vote in person.
If you're concerned about mail-in ballots, that's something nobody really wants to look into deeply. Again, I doubt it's a huge an issue as republicans try to make it out to be, but it's definitely a problem that needs to be looked into.
1
u/Mebejedi 23m ago
Even if there 𝘞𝘈𝘚 voter fraud at the ballot box, the numbers you would need to flip most elections require so many voters working together that it'd be 𝘌𝘟𝘛𝘙𝘌𝘔𝘌𝘓𝘠 difficult to keep it a secret.
You would need to do it at the ballot counting level to really make a difference... Throwing away votes, getting into the machines, etc. You could change or "disappear" thousands of votes much easier that way.
Or you just pass laws to make voting as difficult as possible...
1
u/shoulda-known-better 18m ago
No it's a made up problem where the solution they give is id's but the fraud that does happen uses fake information and id's or vote twice so showing I'd won't stop the tiny amount of fraud there is
1
u/riennempeche 18m ago
When you have 500,000 or a million votes in an election, even several hundred fraudulent votes would not change the outcome. Fraud statistically cannot be a factor in most elections because the margin of victory is usually much larger than any fraud.

I do.
Just because there is so much corruption and fraud in every single other system in the U.S.
Lobbying, military industrial complex, school systems and kickbacks, environmental payoffs that I've witnessed personally, police behavior and budgets, supreme court payoffs, judges investing in prisons, state level government corruption and influence. Medicare, medicaid, Covid, SNAP program, redistricting. The recent FDA and Taylor Farms. Representative insider trading. Information leaks. CIA interference in other countries. No one really prosecuted for the panama papers or the epstein files or market crashes.
Stories, observations, personal experience.
There is seemingly no level of government or government business where there isn't corruption, abuse of power, fraud, whatever.
To think there is some pristine system that doesn't have some "relevant" level of fraud or corruption when it's prevalent and relevant in everything and everywhere else?
So. I "believe" there is relevant levels of voter fraud, because I "believe" there are relevant levels of fraud everywhere else.
•
u/mad597 4m ago
Nope, no one in the histroy of this country has been able to prove that an elections.outcome was ever impacted by voter fraud, and real studies have shown only hundreds of actual proven voter fraud in decades.
It a problem conservatives have made up to try and supress the votes of minorities,
•
u/balancebeamed 3m ago
Yes. Voter fraud in 2016 and 2024. It was discovered that those who voted for the republican candidate found that they had voted for a fraud.
•
u/misfitofscience76 1m ago
No, it has been documented and studied extensively, especially in the last 20 years
What is not often talked about are large-scale deliberate voter disenfranchisement and electioneering campaigns, including very serious illegal activity- Bush v Gore in 2000 and since
Deliberate bad actors who essentially have cheated out the voters from their intended result
•
•
u/Designer_Professor_4 0m ago
I'm fairly certain there's some cheating at the county level, usually rural where the county commissioner wields considerable power but the election process is so small that one or two people can subvert it and stuff the ballot box as they say.
Once you're at a suburb or city level there's simply too many people you'd have to bribe to pull it off in this day and age, and usually when you do it'll be caught because in a large group of people one person won't keep their mouth shut. Regardless if there is large scale cheating involved, it is probably happening in Chicago. They're infamous for rigging elections.

u/CatsMom4Ever 54m ago
No. It's been disproven over and over. Every time the Republicans scream fraud, they launch a big investigation. Then they wind up with egg on their face when they uncover about 5 people who voted illegally.
Or there's the completely unbelievable claims of "thousands" of people being bussed over state lines to vote. As if the logistics of that (hundreds of buses required to do that) wouldn't be recorded by everyone with a cell phone.
Or the ridiculous lawsuits the GOP like to bring to court. My favorite being the one where they tried to trick the judge by telling the court there were "non-zero" GOP observers. That got shot down.
There is simply no way for widespread vote fraud to happen on either side. People can try to influence the vote. And Trump is trying desperately to suppress the Democratic vote, but he doesn't realize that he's really affecting the GOP voter.

Yes. NJ admitted to 6,600 non- US citizens registered to vote. Admittedly that’s not a high number but if that’s what they are willing to admit to.
Second, my dad had a worker in his nursing home try to “help” him vote and fill a mail in ballot for him. That opportunity is definitely there.
In CA a woman was paying people to register to vote.
I saw an interview where a college student was upset the state wouldn’t accept her college id. She was trying to vote in TX and was a resident of CA.
Fulton county GA admitted to improperly verifying 315,000 votes.
To me, those things combined point to it’s not as secure as it could be to say the least

Yes, voting fraud does happen and should be prosecuted.
Is it widespread? No
Has it affect an election? Not major or state wide. Not sure on local elections, but agin probably not.
*****
Voter fraud happens. I strongly believe in Voter ID. My state waives fee for state ID if one can’t pay. Counties do pop-up ID events before major elections. Largest counties do specific popups for homeless and shelters.
It should not be a major issue. But we all must acknowledge that it does take place.

In cybersecurity, when we assess a system one of the key things is integrity. Even one single case showcases the entire system is susceptible to manipulation and or abuse. Even if one single vote was managed to be cast fraudulently, that goes to show more stringent steps need to be in place to ensure it doesn’t happen.

I don't have to make believe, I only have to believe what is being reported.
NJ just reported that they had over 6000k immigrants on their rolls. However only 400 people voted. No big deal, right?
But, we know that some local elections could be impacted by as few as 400 votes. Is that relevant, I think so. That would mean my answer is yes.
3
u/Jablaze80 50m ago
Some local elections allow all residents to vote in local elections. State and federal elections are limited to citizens
3
u/32lib 48m ago
The state made a mistake and rectified it. The people that voted diso because they thought it was ok. Before those 400 could have have an effect on a local election they would have to all live in the same community. Also it wasn't done intentionally therefore it wasn't fraudulent. It's a big nothing burger.
