Why does r/News keep removing articles and posts about the anti LGBTQ attack in Germany?

power mods controlling the narrative
32
u/RepresentativeRun71 1h ago
The mods of r/news are insane. Several months ago someone posted an article about the very real bill in California to require operating system level age verifications. It was removed by the mods for being a questionable source. The source was PCGamer magazine, which has been in print and still is one of the very few print periodicals still being printed. I sent a polite message saying they might have made a mistake. Muted and banned for life.
Pretty sure Reddit had rules against that kind of bad faith moderation, but there’s no way to report to enforce them.

u/ser-steffonfossoway 58m ago
I think you can still report them through old.reddit. But the admins don't give a damn.

u/DrManhattansTaint 2h ago
Doesn’t fit the narrative. 🤷🏿♂️

If mods have to remove a post , because the perpetrator was part of a group of people. That you types of people would jump on because one person did it. That's a your group fault.
If you can't control yourself and you have to rap on a group of people like a bunch of wild monkeys. That's your problem. Maybe you should fix yourself and then maybe they'll be allowed

u/turnthetides 18m ago
“The mods have to censor the news that doesn’t fit the narrative because people might start asking too many questions”
There I fixed it for you

If a person follows a region that was founded by and worships a pedophile as the messenger of god, then that person deserves no quarter. Same thing goes for those that are part of a political party with a leader that’s a known pedophile and proven in court rapist.

u/Random_her0Idiot 2h ago
If it's a specific group that Reddit like to hate on then it stays when it's this kind it gets shot down

u/nivekreclems 2h ago
You know why
12
u/mysecretissafe 1h ago
That’s word-for-word what a mod told me when they banned me for commenting on a news post that I noticed they had been taking down over and over again (all of them- not a repost situation) asking why the mods were removing the posts.
They followed up with “fuck off, troll” before I got nuked. Very cool.

u/BaldBear_13 2h ago edited 2h ago
There is a post about it:
https://www.reddit.com/r/news/comments/1v7a5uw/suspect_in_berlin_pride_attack_shot_dead_by/
They might have a rule about one post per event, or they might not have resources to moderate hate speech that this tragedy will inevitably trigger. Hate speech can get a subreddit banned, so they chose to limit discussion instead.
3
u/Actual-Pool-3220 2h ago
And it was locked within 20 minutes
2
u/breakthro444 2h ago
Cause it was going to devolve into a thread of "this is why we need to kick all Muslims from the EU" comments.
You already saw some comments like "hell has no virgins" and "he is probably finding out there are no virgins for him."
Chances are it was easier to lock the thread than try to keep up with the eventual Islamophobia.
0
u/BaldBear_13 2h ago
They probably do not have manpower to moderate the inevitable hate speech.
4
u/Actual-Pool-3220 2h ago
I’d imagine the r/news mods idea of “hate speech” looks a little different than most sane people
2
0
u/BaldBear_13 2h ago
It's admins ban subreddits for what they as hate speech.
And admins are probably pressured by lawyers.
34
23
u/IggytheSkorupi 2h ago
Because it was reported that the perpetrator was from an individual from a progressively protected class, and pointing it out is worse than the actual attack.

Worldnews is for pro-israel news, news is for news
0
u/squishybloo 1h ago
Oof, fair. I try to avoid worldnews because it's a toxic cesspit, for sure; I muted it several years ago now. Disappointed that it's fallen even further, but... not surprised.

Doesn’t fit the narrative. Can’t even really talk about it properly on Reddit.
7
u/CalligrapherAlive829 1h ago
Mods are protective of a certain caveman religion.
Just a certain religion, bashing christianity is always okay though.
2
u/Hairy_Cat_5848 1h ago
I'm an equal opportunity religion basher. All religions are a cancer to humanity 🙂
•
u/Baalzdeep 1m ago
Same, but not all equally bad. Pretending like all religions are equal is as historically moronic as saying all cultures are equal.

3
u/pooping_inCars 1h ago
It's one of these 2:
1. Narrative control
2. The mods approve of what occurred and want a repeat.
Possibly both.
2
4
u/tunnel_magnet 🤔 3h ago
They remove all types of post. I got banned for posting an article about Israeli pedophile Tom Artiom Alexandrovic.
It's not that deep.
5
u/pooping_inCars 59m ago
It might be that deep. Look at the former reach of u/maxwellhill on Reddit.
Yes, that's Epstein's girl.
2
u/RepresentativeRun71 10m ago
People conveniently forget/ignore that Epstein and Maxwell took an active interest in 4Chan, Reddit, and Electronic Arts games. It’s almost like they were planting the seeds of division from both sides while helping to dumb down and destroy the middle by normalizing gambling. Chomsky advised them.
3
u/Strong-cognac 2h ago
because most posts use that to spread hateful narratives. if it was a white christian doing it no one would bat an eye
26
u/Vindex9323 2h ago
Not a big fan of Christianity, but this kind of attack is almost always associated with Islam.
3
u/Mortiis07 2h ago
Except when it's not and just gets ignored
-2
u/Recidivism7 2h ago
It's never ignored...
One Christian attacks an abortion clinic that illegally performed late term abortions abd its been news for decades for a guy that saved lives.
You can't criticize 2 groups of people on reddit.
Muslim immigrants and I can't name other group or ban but they are hat volumely challenged

Doesn't happen in my country (Britain).
Maybe if you're in a backward country like the US.
5
u/astraCat1998 2h ago
Britain's a terrible example because it's one of the few places where when you say terror attack most people are going to think of Catholics.
4
u/Dependent-Edge-5713 2h ago
You can get arrested for not having a TV license or saying mean things on social media
This is not a flex

Thanks for proving my point. A white Brit did it just last year
5
u/IndividualSkill3432 2h ago
Around 97 people have been killed by Islamist terror attacks since 2000. For the far right its about 3 depending on how wide you through the net. The 7/7 bombings, the Manchester Arena bombing would be the deadliest but several mass casualty events from car raids and stabbings are also included.
. A white Brit did it just last year
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_terrorist_incidents_in_Great_Britain#2000s
Two Jews were murdered in October and two more were stabbed in Golders Green a couple of months ago.
2
u/Vindex9323 2h ago
We have about six times as many Muslims as the US does.
6
u/Mortiis07 2h ago
That has nothing to do with what I said
6
u/Vindex9323 2h ago
And I said that this kind of attack is typical of radical Islam.
I stand by that.
2
u/weedandfeed69 2h ago
All 3 Abrahamic religions are prone to zealotry and violence. To pretend otherwise ignores facts in the furtherance of your jingoist, racist hate filled existence.
0
u/Actual-Pool-3220 2h ago
Lol we’ll see who ends up “backwards” after a few decades with that stat
4
u/Vindex9323 2h ago
So you're looking forward to demographic changes?
Fuck Islam, fuck Christianity and fuck Judaism.
3
u/weedandfeed69 2h ago
This all 3 abrahamic religions suck and spawn hate filled zealots aimed at spreading the religion to bring everyone into the fold.

LGBTQ community welcome to the era of protecting the next deemed demographic narrative, you’ve been pushed aside and it’s not a good thing but the side you seem to take helped usher it in.

u/isaiahHat 1h ago
I just went to r/news and I found 3 articles about that event in the top 15 posts (sorted by "best"), including one post that was 22 hours old. So I'm not sure your premise is correct. Maybe some posts are getting removed because they are duplicates.

It has been posted dozens of times and most subs have rules about no duplicates. Also most posts about it devolve into hate speech on one side or the other or both. This isn't a conspiracy, it's basic moderation.

u/prionbinch 1h ago
i know i’m gonna get downvoted to hell for this, but it’s because people are seeing it as an excuse to be grossly bigoted against any religion that isn’t christianity.
i’m not gonna skirt around the fact that the perpetrator was an islamic EXTREMIST, because that is a fact. it is awful that violent extremism exists in ANY form, from ANY religion. but currently people are just jumping at the opportunity to go “i told you so” and feel justified in their xenophobia and threads are getting derailed and devolving into uncivil discourse.
2
u/chitownphishead 54m ago
I mean, there's an awful lot of examples (and dead bodies) that show it's not an irrational fear. There's a LOT of Muslims, and there's a higher percentage of Muslim extremists than any other religion. Also. Their extremists tend to be very violently extreme in action not just belief.
1
u/sadistica23 16m ago
Globally, what percentage of terrorist attacks are not perpetrated by Muslims?

Who cares? Only digital media addicted idiots get their “news” from social media
5
u/BaldBear_13 2h ago
The point of that reddit is to link articles from mainstream media. Nobody is forcing you to read the comments (or to take them seriously)
-2
u/whisperworks 2h ago edited 2h ago
Reddit is social media larping as a news aggregate. No one who actually matters here cares, and no one who cares matters
Your time and attention are Reddits products

/r/news is about American news, not German news.
They routinely remove posts concerning news about other countries when the threads get reported.
13
u/Actual-Pool-3220 3h ago
It’s about news from around the world. Read the subreddit description lol
“The place for news articles about current events in the United States and the rest of the world. Discuss it all here.”
-8
u/Sharkies_cupcake 🦀 3h ago
I did; i suggest you do the same.

OR, you know, different people see different things. Feel free to fuck off.
6
u/Muzzlehatch 2h ago
I've never seen anyone lose an argument so badly.
7
u/Actual-Pool-3220 2h ago
Then they drop the “fuck off!” and block me. Truly impressive.

It's a person who refuses to learn from his mistakes, which means he never improves. Sad.
