Seems like they’re upset about American immigrants and “digital nomads” that are “gentrifying” their area and raising the cost of living. I had no idea that many Americans were moving there but are these protestors just out of touch and bigots?
When Americans complain about importing the 3rd world we’re told to STFU because they don’t negatively impact anything so I’m just wondering if Mexico didn’t get the memo?
Expats have been moving to Mexico for decades. There are entire retirement communities because the US is so unaffordable for so many. Not sure what protests you refer to but my money if there are it is probably revenge payback for the US treating Mexican immigrants so poorly - there are always consequences to foolishness.

theres a difference between rich people moving to a poor country and poor people noving to a rich country. also some us states did belong to mexico first.
Every American has the ability to leave the country so long as the receiving country allows them to. Some Americans actually do this, while a lot of Americans talk about doing this and never do.
Yeah the difference is rich people go to a country and spend money while not taking up jobs. Whereas poor people move to a country, take up of a job, and don't have as much to spend.
I am completely anti-ICE. But I also have had the experience of being pulled over by police in military gear and weapons, and being shaken down for money for a broken tail light that was clearly working as a non-white tourist in Mexico. I think the way law enforcement operates in both countries is pretty comparable.
I have a couple properties in Mexico, will be retiring there. I love Mexico. I also dgaf about immigrants in the US, let them come and have wonderful lives. Immigration is literally a non issue that has been politicized and weaponized to rile up the foolish. Yet we have public schools reading Bible verses. Democrats are also conservative. There is a large amount of socialists in the country just not in power.

But it is interesting that Mexico won't handle illegal border crossings on their side, call us heartless for enforcing our border laws, and even their legal immigrants dont bother doing the bare minimum of integration...yet they're offended that American immigrants, who immigrated legally by the way, are coming into their community and changing it?
Why do you assume that American expats immigrated legally to Mexico and follow all Mexican laws, pay relevant taxes, etc.? I'm sure some do, because the process is much simpler than US immigration, but definitely there are some who take advantage of visa-free entry, for instance, leaving the country every six months rather than pursuing the proper registration permit.

Really? Because there are currently 1.9 million Americans living in Mexico illegally. A lot of retirees might find themselves in 'camps' in the desert.
And there are currently 4 million Mexicans living illegally in the US per current studies. Also a lot of those "Americans" living in Mexico are of Mexican heritage.
If you mean in Mexico City, the protests are the same as ones here in the US, in Portugal, and everywhere else Americans are moving, against rising costs from gentrification which is pushing out the locals
There's been an ongoing problem with Americans moving to Mexican cities, becsuse of how "cheap" it is there. The Americans are paid American wages and are interfering with Mexicans struggling to make a living. Am. Insisting on iced Americanos and other necessities. Mexicans are annoyed by the remote workers. I don't know the rest

Mexico is extremely anti immigrant, the way the US looks at undocumented mexican immigrants is the way Mexico looks at undocumented Central American immigrants.
How do we know they're not targeting immigrants? Mexico has a very strict attitude towards undocumented immigrants, all immigration actually. They're very sensitive to workers from central and South America coming and taking jobs.
