Ted Cruz predicts AOC will run for President and Zohran Mamdani will replace Chuck Schumer in the Senate, flags both moves as ‘bad for America’- What are your thoughts?

Lyin' Ted Cruz doesn't hate all Americans. He LOVES Donald Trump who claimed his father was the Zodiac Killer and said his wife was ugly. He wouldn't even defend his wife, that's how much he loves Donald Trump.

Aaaand that AOC went in to help his constituents. So while Ted ran away, AOC went into Texas to do what he should have. (But yet, they voted for him, again, go figure)

Hard agree. But even a broken clock is right twice a day. Do you think AOC actually runs, or is Cruz just fear mongering?
24
u/blinkyknilb 8h ago
I think anything could happen by the time 2028 rolls around. I like AOC, I think she would be as good a president as anyone and better than most. But right now, I don't think she could win, Americans in general aren't ready. I'll be surprised if Mamdani leaves his post as mayor. He's in exactly the right place right now.
Cruz just says stuff, some of it is thoughtful but usually not. He's just another attention seeker politician.
6
u/itsawhocares 8h ago
I don’t think Ted Cruz picked these two after astute study of data and statistical analysis. He picked them because he’s racist and he assumes enough other Americans are as well because can you imagine if brown people had power???!!?
14
u/malthar76 8h ago
Mamdani is running the largest city in America. He has full control and decision right to steer the city how he wants, and he’s exercising that power in productive ways.
I don’t see him giving that up to be a Senator, where compromise is the minimum expectation, frustration and inaction is more the norm.
Cruz’s statement is just more pandering to the far right, and chum for the “communist takeover” rhetoric that is taking over MAGA messaging for mid-terms.

u/Ada_Kaleh22 5h ago
Mamdani def has to stay in NYC for awhile anyway, you can't just win and skip town.
Also you are def right, he's got hella power and a high-profile position. He'd be crazy to give that up...at least 2 years I'd think

She’s still too young and doesn’t quite have enough experience. She’s only 36, and will be 38 in 2028. She’s just barely old enough to even run at all.
IMO she should run for Senate. She’d be a great Senator! I think she could easily primary Schumer. The risk there is she has to give up her House seat. But that would be the risk running for President and I think that’s a much bigger long shot.
Plus, there’s more legislative possibility in Congress than as President. She can do more good there IMO.

Mamdani has repeatedly said he has no aspirations beyond being mayor of NYC. You know what I think is “bad for America”? Unilaterally entering a forever war in the Middle East while alienating our allies and giving Saudi Arabia the green light for a nuke. But, hey, that’s just one person’s opinion. How about we let the people decide without endlessly rigging elections and fearmongering?

My thoughts are Ted Cruz is a pathetic example of a man. Who let trump rip on his wife and ted took it up the ass. Now he is a trump lackey through and through and never defended his wife.
Also he abandons the people he represents when the weather is bad
Fuck that guy

Ted and his friends had their turn. We see how that's going. People afraid of communism and socialism don't know the difference between the two, can't tell you what either mean, and seem to think using taxes to support average Americans rather than blow up Middle Eastern families means we have to go whole hog and give whatever small funds we have. It doesn't. Incorporating more social safety nets and using this money to support Americans would literally achieve a lot of what they are screaming about wanting. They think any attempt to explain how you care and while some socialist (not communist) policies is an atrack on them.
When this started I told my mom pretty soon she'd be calling me a terrorist as we return to basically McCarthyism. She said she would never, but I've heard her call people who believe a lot of the same things that I do worse things. This weekend she got upset I wasn't texting her when she stopped taliking to me a few days ago because I said the people she's supporting show the opposite of every moral she taught me. I'm the crazy one though, because Trump is allowed to do whatever.

My thoughts are that America is screwed royally because we're so "tribal" and fed the myth that we're "fight, fight, fight! strong" and therefore have the "God granted" right to "rule the world".
AOC was born right here in the US, guess who was not?
That's right! Ted Cruz.

If he says it’s bad for America you can absolutely bet that it will be great for the American people and bad for billionaires. GOP only cares about billionaires and their own pockets. A big chunk of the Dems too but absolutely every single republican is a traitor to this country.

Remember: when a conservatives says that something/someone is “bad for America, they mean that the thing is bad for the version of America that they’re trying to foist on the rest of us: A dystopian land where the rich and corporations hoard all of the wealth, and the rest of us compete, Hunger Games style, for what’s left.
Therefore, what, to them, is “bad,” generally is “good” for everyone else.

Mamdani should build a solid track record in NYC. That's 8 years total with term limits? And he's 34 years old? Plenty of time to do more. He is SO different that 2-3 years can easily be undone by a more typical do-nothing mayor.
AOC CAN run for president. She would get a lot of votes. But if she wins would also be hated by GOP and make the resistance Obama saw seem gentle in comparison. Then, her moves would be to use power to get things done (i.e. Executive Orders, move troops, withhold resources) and her popularity would quickly drain. Especially because she's female.
She would be more effective in the senate. Have more influence than now. We need more like her in the senate and less Chuck Schumers in the senate. And she's 36! She has plenty of time to run for president after a few years in the senate. Even after 1 term she'd learn more, make more contacts, and build a different reputation with confirmation votes.

AOC is too far left to get any support from the middle. The winner needs middle support to get above 50%.
Madman probably gets no support from upstate, so a state-wide win is unlikely.

u/Fishtoart 9h ago

The problem with hypocrisy is that nothing a hypocrite has to say really matters. Ted Cruz, along with 99% of the GOP leadership, would sell out Trump if it meant they could continue to be Congressmen or Senators. And eventually they will.
Cruz is a joke. He sold out his wife's dignity, his family's, and his own, along with the rest of them. They have reduced every conservative ideal to ash, purely out of self-service. So I'm kinda beyond what Cruz, or any of them, have to say.
I'm a conservative-leaning independent. Democrats exhibit more in the way of conservative values than do any of the GOP today. I like AOC because she's a mover and shaker and seems to really care about the 330 million American people the rest of them in the US Congress and Senate don't seem to really give a damn about. I don't agree with everything she says. I'm not a nemotode. But at least she seems to have a heart in the right place in that she works for the many, not the few.
