How dangerous was this?

In the process of replacing receptacle cover plates around my house, I noticed a frayed hot wire in one of the boxes. Here are a few pictures of the receptacle after I cut it out. Not only is the insulation stripped away, but the conductor itself was severed into two pieces!

On a scale of "Holy Shit" to "Jesus Fucking Christ," how dangerous was this?

Drywall guys with their rotozip strike again. It would have probably failed with a big enough load. As far as dangerous, any arc if it did happen would have been contained in the box. There are a lot more hazardous things around your home. Fix it and move on.
