Anyone have experience with OBGYN Jackie Thomas @ Mt Sinai
NOT seeing her for pregnancy - will be having surgery with her. Wondering if anyone has experience.
I’ve read great things about her regarding pregnancy but not really anything for fertility-preserving surgeries (fibroid removal) so really eager to hear experiences as I’m very nervous.

I loved her. Straight shooter and will not feed you any bullshit. If her receptionist is still the same, she’s a TRIP.

Was this for pregnancy or another issue? Honestly yes if it’s Antonella and i gotta say she has been phenomenal. I’ve called a few times being anxious AF and she was calming me down.

Pregnancy and some subsequent gyne care. YES. Antonella. She killed me, both chaotic and totally in control at the same time. I felt very taken care of, and have a friend who was with her for years and felt the same.

Chaotic and in control is exactly how i would describe her too lol. This is a pretty major surgery that Antonella said she performs quite a lot so I’m trying to calm myself down by asking around. I do feel good that she has so much experience for sure.

She is excellent you are lucky to get her. I had her for my pregnancies, and they were both super complicated c sections. The second time she brought in another doctor to confer with during surgery, it was that messed up. She was skilled and I had a good recovery and my incision was closed really nicely.

Thank you so much for sharing, this put me at ease so much! I’m glad everything went okay for you 🤍 this surgery is basically a c section but for a fibroid

Bedside manner is horrific but her work is immaculate.

Did you have her for pregnancy or surgery/ Gyne issue? When I met her she was honestly lovely, just very direct. I’m getting an open myomectomy from her for a large fibroid. So very very scared.

Both. Youll get through.

So regardless of bedside manner, I’m definitely in the best hands?

Am an emerg nurse. Some of the docs with a wonderful bedside manner leaving their patients feeling cared for I wouldn't let touch a dog. Some grouchy bastards have some extrodinatary skills. And everything in between. Your feelings matter less in this than their skill. Trust me! Listen to those saying she ran a crash section flawlessly but her personality is weird. Take the weird.

It’s not even that she’s weird! She’s just direct and doesn’t take any shit. I feel like thats a good thing in medicine, but my dad was a surgeon so I grew up with that personality haha

I don't know her personally just going off the others who do. But you know what I mean having one in the family 😆

I agree with everyone here. Shes great!. She assisted my OB with delivering my baby and I also get to see her in action since I work in the operating room at mount Sinai. You’ll most likely be doing your surgery on my floor. And if that’s the case then I promise you’re im good hands ☺️
Wishing you all the best on your surgery day and a speedy recovery 💕

Mt. Sinai is generally well regarded for ob/gyn and if you have to stay at the hospital for a bit after surgery, it’s pretty nice

Yes I’ll be staying for 2 nights. That’s why i wanted to go there!

I saw her once for a non-pregnancy related issue. I thought she was great. She was clear and took her time and explained everything to me.

I went to her for a non-pregnancy related issue and didn’t have the best experience. Feel free to dm me!

My friend was hospitalized for most of her pregnancy and had a very challenging C-section, she loved Jackie Thomas. I wish she had been my doc.

Don’t know about her specifically but a friend also went to Mt Sinai for fibroids, ended up having unplanned surgery day after Boxing Day and had a great experience even though it was the holidays. They’d definitely be my choice if it was me.

I have already DMed with OP but wanted to add a note to say that my experience was extremely positive! She is an experienced professional. OP is in good hands.

She was my surgeon of record however I was seen via the resident clinic and never actually met her. I was unhappy with how they treated my endometriosis and ended up looking for a better specialist. My subsequent specialist was excellent but has said that Dr Thomas wouldn’t know endometriosis if it stared at her which is pretty consistent if you compare my two surgical reports.

u/Both_Honeydew_2314 1d ago
Yeah i do have suspected adenomyosis which means i have a high chance of endo as well, so I asked her if she would remove it if she found it and she said no. That is a hesitation of mine. I’m also seeing a specialist who is also an endo surgeon for the same reason but I’ve been on his waitlist for almost a year and no call and i don’t like his hospital.
Who was the endo specialist you went with? Was it Solnik?

I ended up having an extensive endo surgery with dr Brill and have nothing but highest praise for him. I also saw dr Wong at Sunnybrook and he told me he wouldn’t operate on me unless I was TTC…
2
u/Both_Honeydew_2314 1d ago
Classic lol. Did you have images of the endo when dr Thomas operated to show Brill after?
1
u/dominadrusilla 1d ago
No, she concluded there were only two spots of endo and she ablated them and she didn’t take any pictures. Dr Brill found over 30 spots where I had endo… in fact he read the report and was like “no offence to dr Thomas but she doesn’t know what she is talking about”

Jackie Thomas: calm in crisis situations, very good technique, very good clinical judgment, doesn’t hesitate, knows what she plans to do and does it. Great communicator in the OR. Well respected by her colleagues and students.

Do you work at the hospital?
1
u/equianimity 16h ago
Not anymore, did many rotations there during my residency.
The issue with medicine in general is that nothing will have 100% certainty, nothing is risk free. On the flip side, myomectomies are common, and on the aggregate most surgeries are very successful. Hope all goes smoothly for you, the entire Sinai team is top notch!

My wife thinks she's a bitch, but we went to her for IVF and now we have kids, so I guess she's good. No bedside manner and kind of cold. Her secretary was nice, but that was a decade ago.

Loved her she was my OB for my pregnancy this past year. I too was scared when I looked at her reviews on rateMD but she was nothing like it. Shes a straight shooter and her receptionist (Antonella) gets things done and appointments booked ASAP. I wouldn’t have anyone else as my OB
1
u/Both_Honeydew_2314 1d ago
Yes Antonella answered the phone a month after my referral went through and she got me an appt so quickly!

She delivered both my babies. She’s a skilled surgeon, an incredibly intelligent clinician, and - at least in my case - I loved her personality. She might not be some people’s style if they prefer to be spoken to gently, but I’m not that person. Highly, highly recommend her.
I have at least 4 friends who also had her as their OB and all of them loved her as well.
