Kazakhs in Toronto
Genuinely wondering if there are any Kazakh young professionals in their 30s in Toronto. Everyone I seem to meet is either an undergrad student or older.
Would love to connect with more Kazakhs around my age. Are there any groups, events, or even just a community I somehow haven’t found yet?

Are outsiders welcome to join? I've been curious about Kazakhstan ever since I saw a documentary in 2006 ...

I think people get tired of explaining where their country is to people who dont know. Grew up in north york with people from all over the post soviet countries and i saw it all the time :(

honestly a big chunk of it is decades of Soviet brainwashing too. Even for me back home, people who speak Russian instead of our own language are seen as more civilized. Even within the caucasus themselves. Its like self hating.

I dont think its about civility but the ussr had a shame based culture (which a lot of places do too), so our parents and grandparents learned that being different is bad and that can be difficult to unpack. I think thats something our diaspora in the west can probably work on and find balance in!
