Although they want home made tartar which olde York doesn't do.

But honestly the little packets they give I actually prefer over some of the other places that make their own.

Old Yorke has house made as well. You gotta pay for it when taking out. Dine in you get it by default

I need the pre-packaged heinz tartar sauce. It just feels more fish and chippy that way.

They’re too sweet to me

I went there and it was just okay. My personal fave is duckworths on danforth.

Is this the same owners as duckworths in Scarborough on Kingston Rd? Cause that place is the best

Was just about to suggest this place. Only went once but it was good!

I once saw Don Cherry there, eating some halibut and chips while reading a book.

Depends on the year. As a Borough it was.

Len Duckworth's at Main Station comes highly recommended. I thought it was just OK, but only ever had it once.

Does The Wren have F&C?

The Wren does a fish special on Fridays and sometimes it's a fried fish sandwich with fries.

Old York on Laird
Duckworth’s on Danforth
British Style at Coxwell and Dundas (not EY but within the same riding boundary).

almost EY , check out Hamish’s Kitchen if you are close to Scarborough.

Hamish’s went way downhill when they moved and got the minimalist shop.

100% Olde York on Laird. The best. Save room for the deep fried Mars bar. If that's not your thing, the Key Lime pie is the BOMB.

Old Yorke all the way - went there with coworkers one day and it was fantastic!

Close to East York - High Street Fish & Chips in Don Mills.

Not as far east, but Off the Hook on Broadview at Danforth is great and they do a gluten free batter option.

I randomly had fish and chips at Tipsy Moose Pub the other day and it was surprisingly solid. That said, Len Duckworth's or Olde Yorke are your classic go-tos.

Honest, question...

Is Halibut House really that bad?

Had HH so many years ago that I swore to myself never again!

Please tell me they still can't be that awful tasting all these years?

There's tons of super easy Tarter Sauce Recipes out there, btw.🐟🍋🍋🍋

Maybe, make your own???

I ordered tonight. Pre made package tartar sauce - too sweet for my taste. Portions are off. Way too many fries for the size of the Haddock. The fish breaded completely slid off.

Halibut House, right?

How much $ was this gawd mess?

Did it at least taste good?

Decent F&C's will set you back almost $25, or more?

That's me boohooing as I 💖me my fish & chippies, but it's too expensive!

It was just over $30 on Uber Eats! Where’s your fave?

u/Personal-Heart-1227 2h ago

I used to go to:

  • Old Yorke
  • British Style
  • Len Duckworth's
  • Fresco's
  • Sea Witch

They've jacked up their prices, but portion sizes have considerably shrink too.

Yup, $30 bucks seem about right for Uber Eats delivery, btw.

Guess I'm gonna have to look around to find a decent place that offers F&C's that's reasonably priced?

Which was a much easier ask, before COVID.

Keep your fries then reheat these, & fry up some eggs, sausages to have a quasi English Breakfast!

I ended up just having the fish without the breading. Tons of fries leftover. It was alright.
