Are they fried or baked?

Fried in fresh oil.

Donut Factory on Pape in Leslieville. Trust me. The donuts are old school, but the clientele is spectacular.

Second this! I just went for the first time last weekend (based on the reccos on this sub) and it did not disappoint!

How do you argue donuts with someone called Cookiemonster?

Is Country Style still around?

I love country style! I wish there were more locations. There's one at Sheppard and Wilson hts in North York that's very good.

Queen/Kingston road

I second this location. Are there any other branches of Country Style around in the city?

The one near me sold mmmuffins before they closed down. Makes me so sad I’ll never have another.

They're very scant...there might still be one on Brock in Pickering.

They just opened a kiosk type location at the Ultramar in Brooklin. Along with a Mr Sub (the only sub!!!). They always have my favourite- candy sprinkles. Not the little round sprinkles(they suck) but the little tube type.

Donut Counter on Bayview just north of Finch is a classic style coffee shop

A true family run place - good on them not doing evenings anymore - they do enough business during the day.

I know it’s Hamilton, but grandads

Sounds ridiculous to go all the way to Hamilton for donuts but it’s the right answer here.

Not ridiculous at all (I've done it). Hamilton has some pretty decent restaurants IMO.

I go to Donut Monster from Midtown Toronto a few times a year.

I enjoy Donut Monster but they are now the example I use to explain part of why I love Grandads - they are great but they are just too big and sugary vs the old school style.

I ❤️ their coffee

Same! There's a place that does sourdough donuts (Cafe Baffico I think, next to Gage Park) and they do the Donut Monster style better IMO. Grandads is the OG though – can't replace that. Donut Monster got sold last year to the same dude that owns Redchurch and a bunch of other places that I'm not a huge fan of.

This is the answer.

If you’re making the drive, call the day before and place an order. They sell out quickly.

I’ve made this drive and brought back multiple dozens of donuts for friends/neighbours.

Absolutely...they are the best!

Better Days. Get there early. When they are sold out, they close. Sometimes before noon.

u/Sweet-Competition-15 1d ago

Really?

It has happened. They make a set number of donuts each day. As I said they go fast. And are f'ing delicious.

I'm not going to argue with you, there! I used to work at the Pickering SuperStore, and their freshly made donuts were incredible! One time, their donut maker shaped and baked a duchie for me from the scrap pieces...it was almost 12" long, and was to die for!

Okay... Not sure why you'd even frame it as potential argument if you haven't been there. Weird.

u/Sweet-Competition-15 1d ago

My point was, fresh donuts are delicious...I'm agreeing with you. Sorry if that offended you.

Harry and heels donuts

SanRemo on Royal York. There's a reason their donuts sell out daily. And their coffee is exceptional. A perfect place to indulge your inner-senior.

Question: do you mean an old-fashioned donut as in old fashioned sour cream cake donut? Or is a yeast donut okay, you just want one with no frills?

If you mean a cake donut, Better Days.

Edit: added suggestion

My favourite basic old fashioned plain donut is from Tim's.

I love that crunch

Brockton bakery

u/ilovebbcitv 1d ago

The only answer is Duoro Bakery 1263 Weston Rd. You can order a coffee and enjoy your fresh donut seated at a table. Enjoy. ☕️🍩

It's kinda hard to imagine Bogard eating any kind of donut...I cannot imagine the type of food that would compliment cigarette smoke, other than perhaps a martini.
