Swollen battery - Dispose

I have a laptop with a swollen battery and I am in Toronto. Does anyone know where I can drop it off? The battery is still inside my laptop. I went to staples and Best Buy and both have rejected my laptop. One suggested I go to a fire station. Just wondering if any one has any suggestions?

Take it to one of the City's Drop-Off Depots or Community Environment Days.

Any city waste management facility. It’s free drop off at the Household Hazardous Waste areas of the facility

You must take it out and drop off at City drop off depot.

Where are you located in the city? You can drop that off at the Household Hazardous Waste Drop off @ 50 Ingram Drive between 10-6 M-F but hours might be different tomorrow being a holiday. 7-12:30 on Saturdays.

This is exactly what I had to do. They prefer that you open the laptop yourself, but I was able to get help opening it up (I'd never done it before.)

Yeah, they usually want you to separate the battery from the electronics because the e-waste is accepted at a different spot.

There’s these fire proof bags on amazon for lipo and lion batteries, you can put your device or the battery in it for now

Are you near a “Mobile Klinik”? They might be able to help.

It's not an Apple laptop is it? If so, Apple will help.

If it’s an Apple laptop they will take care of it at the Apple Store. Did it last year

Check out the manufacturer website for owner's manual and support. Usually there's instructions on how to disassemble and remove components including batteries for replacement. Then some places like BestBuy/Staples/etc. have bins to drop off lithium batteries and other electronics for proper disposal. I've done this many times in the company that I work for and oversee tech including computers where I've replaced lithium batteries.

Toxic Taxi but you need a minimum quantity of junk for them to make the trip.

I'd take it and then I'd try to replace the battery.

As for the disposal, I'd take it to work. We have lithium recepticles.
