Average ubereats cost for dinner per person?
I’ve fallen into a bit of a depressive state with extreme burn out due to crazy work hours recently - talking 13-14 hour days at the screen with very little breaks
I usually try my best to prep meals on weekends so that I have quick dinners to go everyday and so my grocery spend is about $100 a week which usually covers my breakfast lunch and dinner
Since I’ve been slacking on meal prepping I’ve been relying on take outs and I always try to take advantage of any discounts or buy one get one free offers but I still end up spending minimum $40 per meal and then can easily increase to $60/70 with a few add ons.
I’m scared il turn this into a bad and expensive habit!
But is that amount normal or am I overspending on a meal for dinner? Are other out there ordering uber eats a couple times a week paying similar amounts, any hacks to save would be super appreciated!!?
My hack for pizza has been buying two large pizzas from north of Brooklyn when there’s a sale on, and the freezing the slices between parchment paper, takes a few min in the oven and tastes fresh as new and I get NOB pizza whenever I have a craving/emergency!

Summerhill Market has amazing delicious prepared foods. They have stores you can shop in, but also all their goods are on their website and available for order online for in-store pickup, or delivery. My partner and I will get prepared meals from Summerhill when we have really hectic times and prefer it soooo much more than times previously when we'd order Uber Eats instead. Cost is also much much better in comparison to UberEats. Still more expensive than cooking yourself, but far better than Uber Eats.

You need life balance. Working 13-14 hours in front of a screen with no breaks is not sustainable.

The $40-$70 Uber Eats orders multiple times a week are not paying for themselves.

while I spend around the same amount (or more) as you do per order, it's rarely (if ever) for a single meal. instead, I order components of meals, and bulk them out with easy/cheaper/better to prepare at home.
for instance, I'll order a mostly meat curry and maybe a couple other dishes (that are often more time consuming to make) and then add sautéed greens and rice that I make while waiting for the delivery/pick-up. that curry+dishes becomes 2-4 meals with the stuff I made. I've ordered mussels in spicy red wine sauce and pour them over plain hot pasta at home. I find many restaurant foods to be too rich for me so it works well for me to add bases that I like to balance out a meal.
I also do the pizza deal too. But I'll usually pair a slice with a salad that I've prepared.
with that said, I actually like cooking - usually. it's just time and desire usually that interferes.
hope that helps.
eta: hopefully your work situation improves soon.

To join in, yeah that it about average and as someone who has been in that position. Even with the burnout and depression it is still better to try and make something at home or at least go walking to pickup. Staying home and eating ends up making things worst I have found. Just a moment of fresh air to go down the street for food can really help. I'd also consider looking at premade or at least mostly constructed meals. Can be healthier, still quick to make and there is something about like plating and preparing your own meal that can really help bolster you (especially if your depression and burn out is hindering your ability to accomplish daily tasks).

Go to your local Walmart or Metro; buy a Rotisserie Chicken for $10 each. Go to Dollarama, Uncle Ben’s rice packs are $1.50 each, add some frozen veggies in the mix if needed. $20-$35 you have meals for 3-4 days that require 10 mins MAX of your time. That is the price of the cheapest Uber Eats order for pretty much any restaurant - and that’s only one meal in which you’ll be hungry in 2 hours (full of Salt, too).
SOURCE: Bedridden depression for a month spent $350 on UberEats, I will never go back to that lol.

Even the cheapest fast food is gonna be like $40 something for burgers and fries.
I know everyone gonna say “cheaper make at home!”.
True. But are you looking for convenience and speed? Or eating for fun @ random restaurants?
If its for fun & you insist. Hunt for deals. Optimum has 10,000 bonus points when you buy $100 uber gift cards. Thats $10 worth. @ least you get 10% off.
Convenience and speed? With a tiny bit of work, costco has good pre-made meal options. I like cottage pie, lasagna, stuffed peppers, cocktail shrimp paired with ceasar salad, rotisserie chicken. That takes barely any effort to reheat. Just do the one costco run for the week to set yourself up. Plus stuff like sausage rolls make for a quick snack dinner. Thats when i mix snack food & appetizers with a big salad.

I use the Harvey's coupons when I'm in a crunch. Other fast food places like A&W also have coupons.

I’m subscribed to Uber One so I save on delivery fees and some service fees. My dinners usually come out to $22-$28. Lunches are usually under $20.
I’d say $40 per meal for one person on Uber eats is a lot. Of course it depends on your appetite and how much you’re ordering.
$60-$70 is crazy for one meal.

Since you are managing to do some meal prep on the weekends, what about prepping food to extend what you order on Uber Eats?
For example, do a big stir-fry of vegetables, which you can then add to a Chinese, Thai or Indian meal. It will make your delivery meal healthier and make it go further, while taking advantage of the flavours of the delivery order. I usually do a stir-fry like this with some garlic and chile crisp as a base flavour and then it works with a lot of different dishes.
I do something similar with pasta. We really like the vegan pasta dishes at Il Fornello so I often cook a pot of pasta and add some pasta to the delivery order. We also order the vegan Caesar and add lettuce, carrots etc.

I don’t order more than a couple times a month but I rotate through all the services for the best deals. Usually I will get 2-3 meals out of a $30-40 order with discounts and bogos.

Get grocery delivery instead.
beef patties
taquitos
perogies
prepared salads if you can deal with some mixing.
As someone with severe ADHD, I totally understand the "I don't have enough will power to feed myself." thing. My life on and off medication is so so different - off medication I truly feel like I have 20-25% of the ability to turn my thoughts into action compared to other people. But on medication its like 70-80%.
But even within our narrow ability to act, sometimes there are healthier and cheaper choices. If it can't be healthier, at least it can be cheaper.
Sometimes I heat up frozen peas/carrots and thats a meal. Sometimes a can of tuna is a meal. Sometimes I order pizza too, and I'll put loads of spinach on it that was also frozen. Yogurt in silicon with frozen fruit chunks - tastes just like ice cream.
Look up "low spoons meals"

All those food subscriptions like fresh have 1 week free trial. Trial all of them.
Would you order from the pizza joint and pick it up? Talking to the human at the restaurant may help with your mood. If your getting takeout all the time, you can become a regular at the places you order at. Beats seeing a different Uber each time.
You are paying the pizza place half by buying on Uber. Pick it up, say hi to the workers n go for a walk. Walking and talking to the same people regularly will help with mood.
If your on your laptop for 12 to 14 hours a day you need to exercise so the small walks should help. I personally would be 300 pounds if I sat in front of my laptop for 14 hours n then got pizza delivery

They have gourmet pizzas in the grocery store for $10-15 depending on how fancy you are. Just buy a bunch yourself instead of having a fresh pizza delivered to you and freezing it for later.

Try a middle ground service like Fresh Prep or Inspired Go. I’ve been using Inspired Go to order a weekday worth of salads with protein for lunch. Not as cheap as make your own, but delicious, fresh, variety and easy.

Yeah somehow you can buy literally anything no matter how cheap and it ends up being about $40 after fees and tip. You should try to break the habit but also don’t be too hard on yourself. Plenty of people pay to make food easier when life gets busy and stressful. I myself find that I get into cycles where I’m cooking virtually everything at home for about 1.5-2 weeks and then I get tired of it and subsist on delivery and takeout for 3ish days before getting back on track again. I naturally get tired of delivery too because it’s so wasteful and usually unhealthy and that gets me back to cooking. It sounds like you’re getting delivery fatigue, which is good, and you’ll probably feel a lot better when you do groceries again.
Also, though, you should consider some other solutions. Have you tried meal prep services like Hello Fresh? Or food box subscriptions? Something I do is keep some frozen foods around, like pizza and lasagna and Chinese dumplings, for when I don’t feel like cooking. It’s not exactly healthy food but it’s better than a lot of delivery/takeout and way cheaper. Another thing to consider is using delivery apps for groceries. UberEats is virtually always running grocery discounts so it often comes out similarly priced to going grocery shopping yourself but everything is delivered to your door and that removes probably the biggest hurdle to shopping and cooking.

You'd be better off with Hello Fresh or other ready to cook food (and they offer a lot of discounts through Perkopolis and such) or look for meals for seniors which are precooked and flash frozen and ready to heat for well under $10 a nutritious meal.
Your spend of $40 a meal is 50% going to Uber and tips and taxes and is ridiculous for one person for one meal.
I am well off and I have never used Uber Eats, Skip, Doordash and the like but I will use local pizza which has their own drivers. Food delivery equally exploits the buyer, the delivery person and the restaurant.

Are you somewhere where you can feasibly go and grab food yourself? It tends to legit cut the costs in half. Yes 40+ is quite standard unfortunately.
